Business Development Representative

Healthcare Referral Development & Community Outreach

$65,000–$70,000 Base Salary + Annual Bonus Potential

About Odyssey Autism

At Odyssey Autism, we're on a mission to guide little heroes on their BIG adventures.

We provide individualized, evidence-based Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) therapy for children ages 2–12, helping families access the support their children need to thrive.

We're a growing, BCBA-led organization with clinics in Phoenix and Tucson, built around clinical excellence, strong relationships, and a genuine commitment to the families we serve.

As we expand our presence in Tucson, we're looking for someone who can help more families discover and access our services.

About the Opportunity

We're hiring our first dedicated Business Development Representative in Tucson.

This is an opportunity to take ownership of a growing market, build meaningful relationships throughout the healthcare community, and directly influence how families access autism services.

You'll spend most of your time in the field, connecting with pediatricians, developmental specialists, psychologists, therapists, schools, and community organizations. Your goal is to make Odyssey Autism a trusted referral partner when a child may benefit from ABA therapy.

You'll inherit an established list of prospective referral partners, but you'll have the freedom and responsibility to develop your own territory, build new relationships, and create a sustainable referral network.

You'll report directly to our VP of Growth, who will provide hands-on coaching, strategic support, and opportunities to collaborate in the field.

This isn't a desk job or a traditional sales position. It's a relationship-driven business development role where your success creates real opportunities for children and families to access care.

What You'll Do

Build & Grow Referral Relationships

  • Develop relationships with pediatricians, developmental-behavioral pediatricians, psychiatrists, psychologists, and other healthcare professionals.
  • Establish referral partnerships with speech, occupational, and physical therapy practices, schools, early intervention programs, and community organizations.
  • Conduct 20+ in-person outreach visits weekly to establish new relationships and strengthen existing partnerships.
  • Identify high-potential referral sources and develop strategic plans to grow their engagement.

Represent Odyssey in the Community

  • Educate healthcare professionals and community partners about ABA therapy, autism services, and our referral process.
  • Coordinate lunch-and-learns, clinic tours, provider presentations, and community events.
  • Serve as a trusted point of contact for referral partners, providing responsive communication and ongoing support.
  • Represent Odyssey professionally at networking events, conferences, and community gatherings.

Drive Measurable Growth

  • Generate qualified referrals that contribute to new patient admissions and clinic growth.
  • Collaborate closely with our intake team to ensure a smooth referral and admissions process.
  • Maintain accurate outreach activity, referral relationships, and results in our CRM.
  • Monitor referral trends, identify growth opportunities, and share weekly performance updates.
  • Build lasting partnerships through consistent follow-up, education, and exceptional service.

All referral development activities must comply with applicable privacy, healthcare marketing, and anti-kickback requirements.

What Success Looks Like

We believe in clear expectations, measurable results, and giving our team the support needed to succeed.

You'll work directly with the VP of Growth against a defined performance scorecard, including:

  • First 30 Days: Complete onboarding, learn our services and referral process, develop a territory plan, identify 200+ prospective referral sources, and complete 40 outreach visits.
  • First 90 Days: Establish at least 8 active referral partners and build a consistent outreach rhythm.
  • First 6 Months: Grow to 15+ active referral partners generating at least 8 qualified referrals monthly, while coordinating regular provider education and community engagement opportunities.
  • First 12 Months: Develop 25+ active referral partners generating at least 12 qualified referrals monthly, establishing provider referrals as a leading source of new families for our Tucson clinic.

An active referral partner is one that has generated a qualified referral within the previous 90 days. Qualified referrals are families with children ages 2–12 who are interested in center-based ABA therapy and have insurance accepted by Odyssey.

Who We're Looking For

We're looking for a motivated, personable professional who enjoys building relationships, takes ownership of results, and thrives in an environment that provides a balance of autonomy and support.

Required Qualifications

  • 2+ years of experience in healthcare business development, physician liaison work, provider relations, community outreach, or a comparable relationship-driven sales role.
  • Demonstrated ability to build professional relationships and achieve measurable results.
  • Strong communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills.
  • Confidence engaging with physicians, healthcare professionals, and organizational leaders.
  • Excellent organization, follow-through, and territory management skills.
  • Ability to work independently and manage a field-based schedule.
  • Valid driver's license, reliable transportation, and appropriate auto insurance.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Established professional relationships within the Tucson healthcare or education community.
  • Experience generating referrals for healthcare, behavioral health, therapy, or pediatric services.
  • Familiarity with ABA therapy, autism services, or pediatric healthcare.
  • Experience using CRM software to manage outreach and track results.
  • Bilingual English/Spanish communication skills.

You don't need to be an ABA expert on day one. We'll help you learn our services, understand the referral process, and become a confident resource for the community.

Compensation & Benefits

Base Salary: $65,000–$70,000 annually, depending on experience

Additional Compensation: Annual performance bonus opportunity

Benefits Include:

  • Medical, dental, vision, and life insurance
  • 401(k) with company match
  • 10 days of paid time off and 8 paid holidays
  • Mileage reimbursement for business travel
  • Professional development and ongoing leadership support
  • Weekly one-on-one coaching with the VP of Growth
  • CRM, referral materials, and territory management tools
  • Badger Maps access for field route planning and outreach tracking

Schedule & Location

  • Full-time, Monday–Friday, primarily during business hours
  • Field-based throughout the Tucson metropolitan area
  • Home clinic: 5700 E. Pima Street, Tucson, AZ
  • Occasional evening or weekend events

Build Your Career With Us

We're building more than a referral network. We're building a scalable growth organization, and this position is an opportunity to help shape it.

As Odyssey continues expanding, successful team members may have opportunities to advance into positions such as:

  • Senior Provider Relations Representative: Manage strategic partnerships with health systems, physician groups, and health plans.
  • Provider Relations Manager: Lead and develop provider relations representatives across multiple territories.
  • Business Development Leadership: Help shape regional growth strategy, referral development, and market expansion.

These are potential career paths based on performance and organizational growth, not guaranteed promotions.

Why Odyssey Autism?

When families need autism services, they often turn first to someone they trust: their pediatrician, therapist, school, or another healthcare professional.

Your job is to make sure those trusted professionals know Odyssey Autism is here to help.

You'll represent a growing organization offering individualized, BCBA-led therapy, autism diagnostic evaluations, and coordinated speech and occupational therapy services alongside ABA.

Our Tucson clinic works with major commercial insurers and AHCCCS plans, and our dedicated intake team helps families navigate insurance verification and the admissions process.

You'll have the autonomy to build your territory, the support of experienced leadership, and the opportunity to see the direct impact of your work.

If you're energized by building relationships, growing a territory, and making a meaningful difference in your community, we'd love to meet you.
