Welcome to Hastings Direct.
We’re a digital insurance provider with ambitious plans to become the best and biggest in the UK market. We’ve made huge investments in our pricing and data capabilities over the past few years, along with nurturing our 4Cs culture.
We provide insurance for over four million customers, but we know there’s even bigger opportunity out there – our Pricing, Data and Analytics community value curiosity, collaboration and constructive challenge.
We are always looking for new ideas and diverse perspectives to question established thinking and drive meaningful change. Great pricing is built on trust, innovation and precision, so our aim is to ensure customers receive a fair and accurate price based on their individual risk, supporting fair outcomes, while delivering sustainable and profitable growth for our company.
Pricing is more than just a number – it’s a strategic capability. At the heart of Hastings is deep risk insight – continually improving how we assess, segment and price risk through data and analytics.
Job details:
- Deliver accurate, timely and insightful analysis, reports and dashboards that support underwriting decisions across portfolio performance, profitability, risk and customer outcomes.
- Monitor key performance indicators and profit drivers, identifying trends, risks, opportunities and emerging areas of focus.
- Move beyond reporting the numbers by investigating potential drivers and translating findings into clear, actionable insight.
- Develop, maintain and improve Power BI dashboards and recurring reporting, rationalising and automating outputs where appropriate so they remain relevant, reliable and easy to use.
- Write well-structured SQL and analytical code with clear documentation, reproducible logic and appropriate validation.
- Reconcile data sources and investigate discrepancies to support a consistent and trusted view of performance.
- Work with stakeholders to define requirements and translate business questions into analytical solutions.
- Present complex information in a clear and engaging way, using effective data visualisation and storytelling techniques.
- Use AI and automation responsibly where they improve the quality, speed or accessibility of analysis, while applying appropriate review and validation.
- Contribute to continuous improvement across data quality, reporting processes, analytical methods and team standards.
- Own tasks and deliverables, working autonomously while aligning priorities with team and departmental objectives.
- Collaborate with analysts, data engineers, BI specialists and business stakeholders to deliver effective outcomes.
Essential skills/experience:
- Experience delivering analysis, management information, reporting or business intelligence outputs.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the curiosity to challenge assumptions and investigate why results have changed.
- Experience writing SQL and working with structured data.
- Experience using a BI or data visualisation tool, preferably Power BI.
- The ability to plan and structure analysis, validate outputs and deliver reliable work independently, while seeking input when risks, assumptions or priorities need clarification.
- An understanding of business KPIs and how analytical measures link to commercial or customer outcomes.
- Clear written and verbal communication, with the ability to explain technical or complex findings to non-technical audiences.
- Good judgement about when to work independently, when to collaborate and when to escalate risks or uncertainties.
- An interest in using AI responsibly to improve analytical delivery; practical experience is beneficial but not essential.
