This ensures that NetBet operates in line with the rules and regulations of each jurisdiction and that players receive the best possible service.

Role Overview

The BI Manager owns NetBet's business intelligence function end to end: the people, the Tableau estate, the data pipelines and the numbers that Finance, Country Managers and top management rely on. It is a hands-on role with three focus areas: reconciling our production database, Vertica and what we report to regulators; leading AI implementation in BI; and owning Tableau dashboards. Regulatory reporting is time-sensitive: the standard is no delay and no inaccuracy.

  • Title: Business Intelligence (BI) Manager
  • Reports to: Director of Technology
  • Manages: the Senior BI Analyst with room to grow
  • Key partners: Finance, Country Managers, CRM & Marketing, Fraud / Risk, Compliance, Technology (DBA, Development, Technical PM), external auditors
  • Location: Malta office, hybrid working

Duties and Responsibilities:

Leadership and delivery

  • Lead, mentor and develop the BI team through regular 1-to-1s, clear objectives and personal development plans
  • Own the BI backlog in Jira end to end; plan the backlog and deliver items on the planned date
  • Set team KPIs and allocate work across Finance, Commercial and Operations requests
  • Review and sign off team outputs before they reach management, Finance or regulators
  • Ensure no single point of failure: every recurring and regulatory process is documented and has a trained backup
  • Hire and onboard new BI staff as the team grows; build a culture of accuracy, documentation and continuous improvement

BI strategy and platform ownership

  • Own the BI roadmap and agree priorities with top management each quarter
  • Own the Tableau estate: standards, performance, access, licences and retirement of unused reports
  • Work with Data Engineering on the data warehouse, data models and ETL so there is one agreed source of truth for each KPI
  • Drive automation of recurring reports and remove manual Excel workflows
  • Lead AI implementation in BI, for example AI-assisted analysis, natural-language querying and automated insights on Vertica and Tableau, with checks that keep outputs accurate

Data reconciliation and regulatory reporting

  • Own reconciliation between our production database, the Vertica data warehouse and the figures reported to regulators
  • Build automated reconciliation checks that run every reporting cycle, with breaks investigated, explained and signed off
  • Ensure accurate, on-time data for regulatory submissions in all licensed markets, with a clear audit trail from source to filing; no delay and no inaccuracy
  • Own the recurring reporting estate: scheduled regulatory loads and submissions, daily and monthly performance reports to leadership, and risk / fraud monitoring outputs

Finance, regulatory and management reporting

  • Deliver monthly market performance packs that Country Managers use for their Operations meetings
  • Lead yearly budgeting projections, forecasts and targets with senior management and Finance
  • Act as BI lead for Finance and external auditors: reconciliations, revenue and bonus cost data, audit requests
  • Provide Finance with reconciled figures that tie back to regulatory submissions
  • Provide operational data services: compliance and audit extracts under regulator deadlines, data corrections after incidents with a full audit trail, monitoring feeds to Operations

Data quality monitoring and observability

  • Implement freshness, completeness and anomaly monitoring on all marts and regulatory outputs so BI detects issues before Finance, Compliance or the regulator does
  • Own anomaly detection on gameplay and transactions (suspicious wins, clusters, round-value wins) with Fraud / RFP, including the false-positive review process

Data governance and change control

  • Own KPI definitions, the business glossary (with examples and lineage) and BI documentation
  • Run change control for all reporting logic: versioned in Git, tested against previously filed figures, announced to Finance and Compliance before release, no changes inside regulatory deadline windows, no retroactive restatement without documented sign-off
  • Ensure data quality, privacy (GDPR) and security across all BI processes

Commercial analytics

  • Oversee analysis of acquisition spend and marketing channel ROI, CRM campaigns and player lifecycle
  • Run simulations before commercial decisions (loyalty, bonus economy, jackpots, campaigns) and end every analysis with a recommendation and its risks
  • Plan and close structural data gaps with Development and partners, rather than reporting them as unavailable
  • Support Fraud and Risk teams with pattern detection on gameplay and transactions

Person Specifications:

  • 8+ years in BI or data analytics, including at least 2 years formally managing analysts (hiring, 1-to-1s, performance reviews)
  • Track record of building or rebuilding a BI function or reporting stack, not only maintaining one
  • Direct experience supporting Finance and regulatory reporting: month-end, budgets and forecasts, audit requests, and reconciling source systems to figures filed with regulators
  • Experience with financial and transactional data at high volume, including data validation and real-time or near-real-time querying

Hard skills

  • Expert Tableau: dashboard design, Tableau Server/Cloud administration, performance tuning, governance
  • Advanced SQL, data mining and strong data modelling (dimensional models, KPI layers) on a columnar warehouse; Vertica required
  • MySQL stored procedures (where the accounting logic lives), Git/GitLab, Kafka streams, Athena/S3 archives
  • Hands-on ETL/ELT experience (for example dbt, Airflow or similar) and automation of recurring reporting
  • Practical experience applying AI / LLM tools to analytics, including model fine-tuning and output validation
  • Forecasting and target-setting methods; strong Excel
  • Working knowledge of data governance, GDPR and regulatory reporting

Leadership and soft skills

  • Proven people leader who can coach mid-level analysts into senior ones
  • Confident with C-level stakeholders: can challenge requests, set priorities and say no with reasons
  • Clear, concise communicator and data storyteller; listens as well as presents
  • Highly organised, with an eye for accuracy and sign-off discipline

Nice to have

  • iGaming or online entertainment experience (casino, sportsbook, CRM, bonus and player value analytics)
  • Knowledge of gaming-regulator reporting in European markets
  • Python or R for analysis and automation
  • Power BI, Looker or Google Analytics
  • Experience introducing a semantic layer or self-service BI for business users
  • Degree in a quantitative field (Maths, Statistics, Computer Science, Economics, Finance)
