Senior Director - Business Development, Head of Insurance
Location: New York
Position Overview:
Fitch Ratings currently seeks a Senior Director to head our Insurance Business and Relationship Management (BRM) team in New York. In this issuer-facing role, the candidate will lead a small team of business development professionals and report directly to the BRM North American Head of Financial Institutions. This senior role will have primary responsibility for developing and maintaining insurance company relationships to more effectively market Fitch Ratings services to them. This role is broad: coverage includes the US, Canada, Bermuda and Cayman Islands, and all sub-sectors: life, health and P&C, as well as insurance-linked securities. The candidate will likely have experience at an insurance company or insurance broker in a credit markets role, at a top-tier investment bank either on a DCM, syndicate or coverage team focused on the insurance sector, or in business development focused on the insurance sector at another rating agency.
The principal objective is to generate new Insurance rating mandates through relationship development and consistent, targeted marketing. This BRM insurance role is critically important to the broader BRM team given the size and growth of the sector, and the evolving relationships with asset managers and private credit players.
We Will Count on You to:
- Generate opportunities: Identify, screen and pursue new business opportunities across the insurance market.
- Manage external relationships: Establish and / or strengthen relationships with insurance issuers and associated bankers to enable impactful marketing resulting in ratings engagements for Fitch.
- Lead the market & pipeline analysis:
- Conduct research, develop, prepare, and present marketing messages to insurance issuers and bankers, highlighting factors that differentiate Fitch and its published ratings and research.
- Oversee preparation of client presentations, market analyses, post-meeting follow-ups, and data gathering for near-term and longer-term initiatives.
- Manage various responsibilities as the team lead: maintain and prioritize the team’s target list, set and monitor the outreach strategy, manage the high-level budgeting, negotiate issuer contracts and minimize churn of existing issuers through focused relationship management.
- Collaborate internally:
- Liaise with other BRM colleagues in New York, as well as EMEA groups to coordinate firm messaging, target lists, and assist in the development of relationships.
- Work with Marketing and Events teams on Insurance events, investor engagement, banker entertainment and conferences.
What You Need to Have:
- Minimum of 10+ years of experience at an insurance company or insurance broker focused on credit markets or at an investment bank focused on the insurance sector in one of the following capacities: debt capital markets, general corporate finance coverage or M&A.
- Senior sales, marketing and relationship management skills and mindset.
- Excellent communication and presentation skills.
- Ability to work both independently and as part of a team.
- Ability to travel as required.
What Would Make You Stand Out:
- Broad insurance industry and related banking contacts.
- Advanced understanding of insurance credit ratings, insurance regulation and the insurance market.
- Proven ability to build and maintain client relationships.
