Are you a commercially driven Buyer who lives and breathes brands, product and lifestyle culture?
We’re looking for an experienced Retail Buyer - Lifestyle Brands to curate and grow a compelling portfolio of local and global brands, bringing together the right product, at the right price, at exactly the right time for our customers.
This is a role for someone who understands that great lifestyle buying sits at the intersection of culture, consumer behaviour, product instinct and commercial performance. You’ll have a strong pulse on emerging lifestyle movements, fashion and streetwear influences, changing customer behaviour and the brands shaping what customers want next. You’ll take ownership of your category and the end-to-end buying cycle, from brand scouting and seasonal assortment strategy through to product selection, supplier negotiation, Open-to-Buy management and in-season trading.
You’ll build trusted relationships with third-party brand partners and suppliers, ensuring we have a relevant and differentiated branded offer while delivering strong sales, margin and stock productivity. Ultimately, you’ll be responsible for creating trend-relevant, commercially compelling lifestyle assortments that customers want to discover, buy and come back for.
What you’ll be doing
- Own the category developing seasonal buying strategies that balance customer demand, brand relevance, trend, commercial objectives and profitable growth.
- Curate a compelling lifestyle brand portfolio, sourcing and managing the right mix of established, emerging, local and global third-party brands.
- Stay connected to youth culture, streetwear, fashion, active, sports and broader lifestyle movements, identifying the trends, products and brands gaining momentum.
- Scout new brands and opportunities, bringing forward compelling local and international brands that can differentiate and strengthen the overall customer proposition.
- Translate customer, cultural and market insights into assortments that are both trend-forward and commercially successful.
- Conduct ongoing competitor and market analysis across product, brands, pricing, promotional activity and customer proposition, using these insights to identify opportunities and maintain competitive relevance.
- Partner closely with Merchandise Planning to build seasonal financial plans, Open-to-Buy budgets and balanced product assortments.
- Own the product buy, determining the optimal mix of brands, categories, products, styles, price points, options, depth and sizing.
- Make considered decisions around where and how product should be ranged across stores and digital channels, tailoring assortments and depth to customer demand and commercial opportunity.
- Take ownership of category performance, actively managing sales, gross profit, margin, inventory, sell-through, stock turn and markdown exposure.
- Analyse weekly trading performance and customer demand, identifying risks and opportunities early and responding quickly through repeat buys, cancellations, rebalancing or other in-season actions.
- Make informed decisions about which products and brands to invest behind, grow, optimise or exit based on performance and future potential.
- Build strategic relationships with third-party brands, agents, distributors and domestic and international suppliers, becoming a trusted partner and representing the needs of the customer and the business.
- Lead supplier negotiations across cost price, margin, MOQs, order quantities, delivery windows, payment and trading terms.
- Identify opportunities for exclusive products, differentiated assortments, capsules, launches and priority access that give customers a reason to choose us.
- Continually monitor the performance and health of individual brands, creating growth plans for high-performing partners while addressing underperformance quickly.
- Work cross-functionally with Planning, Marketing, Digital, Retail Operations, Visual Merchandising, Supply Chain and other merchandise teams to deliver a connected lifestyle proposition across the customer journey.
- Partner with Marketing and Digital teams to maximise key brand moments, launches and product stories across stores and online.
- Maintain a strong understanding of broader consumer factors, including customer spending, seasonality and weather, and understand how these may influence product demand.
- Bring a customer-first, agile and commercially curious mindset to every decision, moving quickly when market trends or trading conditions change.
To be successful in this role you’ll have
- Proven Retail Buyer experience within branded or multi-brand retail, ideally across lifestyle, fashion, streetwear, footwear, active, sports or another trend-led consumer category.
- Strong experience buying third-party branded product and managing relationships with brand owners, distributors, agents and/or suppliers.
- A genuine passion for lifestyle brands, product and culture, with an instinctive understanding of what is happening in the market and what is likely to resonate with customers next.
- A strong understanding of contemporary consumer behaviour, fashion, lifestyle, streetwear and/or sports culture and how these influences translate into commercial product opportunities.
- Demonstrated experience sourcing and introducing new local and global brands, alongside managing and growing established branded portfolios.
- Strong assortment-building capability, with experience developing ranges across brand mix, category, product, style, price point and depth.
- Excellent commercial and financial acumen, with confidence managing OTB, sales, gross profit, margin, stock turn, sell-through, markdown and inventory.
- Strong analytical capability and the ability to translate large volumes of sales, stock, customer and market information into confident buying decisions.
- A demonstrated ability to combine product and trend instinct with commercial data, understanding that a great product isn't successful unless the customer wants it and the financials stack up.
- Excellent negotiation capability, with experience negotiating costs, volumes, MOQs, trading terms, margins, delivery timelines and commercial agreements.
- Strong relationship management skills and an ability to create genuine, long-term partnerships with brand and supplier partners.
- Experience trading a range in-season, with the confidence to chase winners, manage risks and react quickly to shifting customer demand.
- An understanding of omnichannel retail, with an appreciation of how product and customer demand can differ across physical stores and digital channels.
- Strong communication, influencing and stakeholder-management skills, with the confidence to work across merchandise, planning, marketing, digital, retail and supply chain.
- A proactive, agile and results-driven approach, with the ability to make commercial decisions at pace.
What will really set you apart
You’ll be someone who can walk into the market and immediately understand which brands matter, which products have momentum and which opportunities can translate into meaningful commercial growth.
You’re as comfortable discussing the next lifestyle trend or emerging brand as you are analysing margin, sell-through, OTB and stock turn.
Most importantly, you'll understand that great lifestyle buying isn’t simply about following trends. It’s about anticipating customer demand and turning cultural relevance into profitable retail performance
