Noir Consulting is recruiting on behalf of a global financial technology team for a permanent Trading Algorithm Strategist position in London. This opportunity is suited to an experienced C++ engineer who wants to work at the intersection of software engineering, quantitative analysis and electronic equities trading.
About The Company
The hiring organisation develops financial technology and execution solutions for institutional clients across global markets. Its engineering teams build and maintain systems that support the complex demands of electronic trading, where execution quality, reliability and performance are essential. The environment brings together developers, quantitative analysts, trading specialists and business stakeholders to deliver technology with a direct impact on how orders are executed.
You will join a compact, collaborative and globally distributed team that values practical engineering expertise, open communication and continuous improvement. Team members have the opportunity to contribute to technical decisions and work on systems at the heart of cash equities execution.
About The Role
As a Trading Algorithm Strategist, you will design, develop and optimise high-performance algorithmic applications for cash equities markets. This is a hands-on engineering role with a strong focus on low-latency, high-throughput systems and the quality of institutional order execution. You will contribute to capabilities including Best Execution, Smart Order Routing (SOR), Centralised Risk Book (CRB) and Internal Order Book (IOB).
Working closely with technical and business colleagues, you will translate complex quantitative and business requirements into robust, efficient software. You will also have the scope to recommend technology improvements, influence software architecture and share engineering knowledge across the team. The position is based in London with a hybrid working arrangement.
Qualifications
Applicants should bring strong C++ programming skills and professional experience in algorithmic trading, electronic execution or a closely related quantitative technology environment. A solid understanding of financial markets, cash equities and trading strategies is important, as is the ability to analyse complex problems and develop practical, well-engineered solutions.
Experience with Linux, market data feeds, order execution and performance testing would be valuable. Familiarity with networking and distributed systems, including TCP/IP, UDP/multicast, inter-process communication and high-performance computing, is also advantageous. Candidates should be comfortable discussing software architecture, design patterns and coding practices, and communicating effectively with colleagues across engineering, quantitative and trading functions.
Applicants must already have the right to work in the United Kingdom. Visa sponsorship is not available for this role.
Responsibilities
Design, build, test and maintain strategic algorithmic trading applications for cash equities. Develop and enhance execution solutions that support Best Execution, SOR, CRB and IOB capabilities. Analyse performance and identify opportunities to improve latency, throughput, resilience and execution quality. Work with market data and order execution systems in a demanding, low-latency environment. Collaborate with quantitative analysts, developers, trading specialists and business stakeholders to clarify requirements and deliver effective solutions. Contribute to technical and architectural decisions, promote robust engineering practices, and propose improvements to existing systems. Share expertise and support colleagues through technical guidance and mentoring, including in distributed architecture, design patterns and coding best practices.
Benefits
The advertised salary is £90,000–£130,000 per annum, plus bonus, benefits and pension. The role offers hybrid working in London, the opportunity to work on sophisticated trading technology, and close collaboration with experienced professionals across engineering and financial markets. You will have meaningful technical ownership and the opportunity to influence systems that directly support institutional trading activity. Full benefits details will be discussed during the recruitment process.
Equal Opportunity
Noir Consulting welcomes applications from qualified candidates with varied backgrounds and experiences. Recruitment decisions should be based on relevant skills, experience and the requirements of the position. Applicants who need adjustments during the recruitment process are encouraged to discuss their requirements with the recruitment team.
