Overview
The Campus Organizer/Faithful Action reaches and engages a network of student leaders, and campus-based faith communities in support of a critical part of CMMB's global health priorities – maternal and child health. This role is responsible for recruiting and developing student and faith-sector volunteers, forging partnerships particularly with Catholic campus ministries, interfaith centers, and student organizations, and translating that grassroots energy into visible activity and action — information-sharing town halls, student activism, letter-writing, and campus events. The Campus Organizer/Faithful Action works within a community of maternal and child health mobilization teams beyond CMMB, and reports on progress on campus and in the broader community toward shared advocacy and coalition-building goals.
This is a self-reliant, entrepreneurial engagement role. The ideal candidate is comfortable developing a plan for campus outreach and engagement from the ground up in a subset of geographies, managing their own schedule and travel across a portfolio of campuses, and representing the organization and the issue independently with student groups, campus administrators, faith leaders, and coalition partners.
Key Responsibilities
Recruit, train, and manage student volunteer leaders and campus action teams; build a pipeline of student ambassadors who can sustain activity after the mobilizer moves on to new campuses.
Develop and steward relationships with faith communities — campus ministries, chaplaincies, interfaith councils, and local congregations — to engage people of faith as advocates for global health and poverty-reduction priorities.
Build and coordinate coalitions of student organizations, faith groups, and community partners around shared advocacy goals, aligning diverse constituencies behind common asks.
Plan and execute on-campus events and actions that generate increased knowledge of and commitment to women and children’s health as a global health priority; newly aware students and allies are given opportunities to engage in public and political support (e.g., meetings with congressional offices, letter and call campaigns, petition drives, possible field witness visits, media moments).
Represent the organization at campus events, conferences, interfaith gatherings, and partner meetings; serve as a credible, values-aligned spokesperson to student and faith audiences.
Track and report volunteer engagement, coalition growth, and advocacy actions using the organization's CRM/volunteer database; provide regular progress updates to the backstop team.
Collaborate with communications, policy, and other regional mobilizers among allied organizations to align messaging, share best practices, and coordinate multi-campus or multi-region actions.
Manage a travel-intensive schedule across an assigned region or portfolio of campuses, working independently to prioritize and sequence outreach.
Qualifications
Required
Bachelor's degree or equivalent combination of education and relevant experience.
5 years of experience with growing responsibility and project management experience.
Demonstrated experience in grassroots organizing, volunteer mobilization, campus organizing, ideally with faith-based communities.
Track record of building relationships and coalitions across diverse constituencies, including students, faith communities, and community organizations.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills; comfort with public speaking to student groups, congregations, and coalition partners.
Highly self-directed: able to set goals, manage a variable schedule, and drive a program with minimal day-to-day supervision.
Cultural competence and genuine comfort engaging across a range of faith traditions and campus communities.
Willingness and ability to travel regularly, including some evenings and weekends for events.
Preferred
Experience with issue-based advocacy campaigns.
Existing relationships with campus ministries, interfaith networks, or student advocacy organizations.
Familiarity with volunteer/CRM databases (e.g., Salesforce, Mobilize, EveryAction) and digital organizing tools.
Experience working with grant-funded or foundation-supported programs and associated reporting requirements.
Residence located near major airport hub cities given significant travel requirements
What Success Looks Like
A busy dance card of campus visits across 8 states to engage with campus ministries and student groups resulting in a growing, active roster of student leaders and faith-community partners engaged in global health learning and advocacy.
A signature engagement activity that appeals to college students to easily acquaint them with the issue and have a fun way to connect with other globally minded students.
Measurable advocacy actions delivered (meetings held, actions taken, media secured) against shared team targets.
Strong, durable relationships with campus and faith stakeholders that outlast any single campaign cycle.
Semi annual stock taking about what is working and gaining traction, what and where more attention needs to be applied using data collected from campus level partners.
