Company Overview:
Integrated Data Services (IDS) is a leading provider of custom software products and Government financial management services. IDS was founded in 1997 in El Segundo, CA, and since that time has seen tremendous growth and success. Currently, IDS has offices supporting customers nationwide. By providing customers with fast, efficient and reliable information systems and support services, IDS has become a preferred provider of financial and programmatic systems, services and solutions across a wide variety of government agencies.
Position Description:
IDS is seeking a Senior Software Engineer to build and sustain enterprise applications that DoD personnel depend on daily for program and financial management activities. Our stack is Java and Spring Boot on the back end, Angular on the front end, Oracle underneath, deployed to government approved cloud environments (such as AWS GovCloud) through automated pipelines under DoD security requirements.
We are less interested in a checklist of frameworks than in how you think. The engineers who do well here can hold a problem in their head from the database up through the browser, can read unfamiliar code and form an accurate model of it quickly, and can tell the difference between a solution that works and a solution that will still work in three years. We expect engineers here to work effectively with AI tooling and to stay accountable for what ships. Depth in at least one area is expected; rigidity is not. We assume tools will keep changing and that the durable skills are judgment, clarity, and discipline.
You will be working on a product team supporting an established application that DoD organizations rely on to manage program and financial data at scale. The work is a mix of sustaining and extending capabilities customers depend on today, modernizing the technology underneath them, and building new functionality. You will spend real time in code you did not write, and the judgment to know when to improve it, when to replace it, and when to leave it alone matters as much as the ability to write something new
Responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following:
- Own application capabilities from concept through production, including requirements analysis, solution design, API services, implementation, testing, deployment, verification, and sustainment.
- Use AI development tooling where it accelerates delivery (code, tests, schema changes, documentation, deployment artifacts), while remaining fully accountable for the correctness, security, and maintainability of what ships
- Model data as part of feature design: design tables, keys, constraints, and indexes that serve applications and APIs alike, efficiently and safely, and evolve existing schemas as requirements change
- Write SQL directly against Oracle and understand what the database does with it
- Contribute to Angular front-end work as features require, whether or not it's your primary specialty
- Own your changes through the pipeline: build, scan, test, deploy, and verify in the target environment
- Write clean, well-tested code, explain it well for others to peer review, and give substantive peer review in return
- Investigate defects efficiently to root cause rather than to the first plausible explanation
- Participate in architecture and design decisions, and make the case for better approaches when you see them
Knowledge and Skills:
- Demonstrated depth in relational databases - designing schemas as well as writing, reading, and reasoning about non-trivial SQL, ideally Oracle
- Working familiarity with a modern front-end framework (Angular or React)
- Experience delivering software through CI/CD into a cloud environment, using any mainstream toolchain (GitLab CI, GitHub Actions, Jenkins, Azure DevOps, Bitbucket Pipelines, or equivalent)
- Recent hands-on work with a modern Java LTS release (21 or 25)
What Distinguishes Strong Candidates
You may not have experience in every area listed below. These qualifications are intended to provide insight into the technical and operational environment in which you will work and the capabilities that can contribute to success in this role.
- Data access breadth – Experience working with both JPA/Hibernate and JDBC-based approaches, with the ability to determine when each is appropriate; familiarity with schema migration tools such as Flyway or Liquibase.
- Cloud and operations – Experience with AWS services such as ECS/Fargate, RDS, S3, and IAM; container build and runtime environments; and infrastructure as code.
- Pipeline and supply chain – Experience with static analysis and dependency scanning tools such as SonarQube, Fortify, Trivy, or Snyk; artifact promotion and provenance; and pipeline development within a modern CI/CD platform.
- Security engineering – Experience with PKI and certificate management, TLS configuration, secrets management, FIPS-validated cryptography, and secure software development under DoD/DoW requirements.
- Regulated delivery – Experience delivering software in environments governed by STIGs, RMF, ATO processes, or similar security and compliance frameworks.
- Domain – Experience with federal financial management, Planning, Programming, Budgeting, and Execution (PPBE), or DoD/DoW systems acquisition.
- AI-assisted development – Demonstrated experience using AI-enabled development tools in production software environments, combined with the judgment to validate outputs, recognize limitations, and determine when independent technical analysis is required.
