Company Overview
NACOS Marine delivers advanced navigation, automation, and control systems for vessels worldwide. Our integrated solutions help ship owners and operators improve safety, efficiency, and sustainability at sea. With proven reliability, innovative technology, and dedicated support, we enable smarter maritime operations. Let’s shape the future of maritime technology together.

Role Overview
We are seeking a structured and detail-oriented Automation Certification Engineer (m/f/d) to take ownership of type approval and certification for our automation and control system products.
In this role, you will plan and run certification programs with classification societies and notified bodies, maintain our existing certificate portfolio, and prepare the documentation packages that demonstrate compliance. You will work closely with R&D, project teams, production, and external test labs, and act as our point of contact for class surveyors.
You will also track regulatory developments across IMO, IEC, and IACS, and advise our development teams on design-for-certification so that compliance is built in rather than retrofitted.

Key Responsibilities
  • Plan, coordinate, and execute type approval and certification programs for automation and control system products with classification societies and notified bodies
  • Maintain and renew existing type approval certificates, monitoring validity, revision changes, and rule updates (IACS URs, class rules, IMO instruments)
  • Prepare certification documentation packages, including test plans, compliance and traceability matrices, environmental and EMC test reports, and software quality plans
  • Ensure compliance with IACS UR E10, E22, and E26/E27, the Cyber Resilience Act, and relevant IEC standards such as IEC 60945 and IEC 62443
  • Coordinate third-party component certification, including COTS hardware such as industrial PCs and displays, and resolve class-specific acceptance issues
  • Interface with classification society surveyors during Factory Acceptance Tests, audits, and plan approval, and support project and production teams in resolving class comments
  • Manage relationships with notified bodies for environmental, EMC, and functional testing
  • Track regulatory changes, assess their impact on the product roadmap, and advise R&D on design-for-certification
  • Maintain the certification database and support internal ISO 9001 quality management system audits
  • Follow standardization activities within IMO, IEC, and other relevant organizations

Key Requirements
  • B.Sc. or M.Sc. in Electrical or Electronic Engineering, Automation, Marine Engineering, or a comparable technical discipline
  • Knowledge of IACS Unified Requirements, in particular UR E10 (environmental testing) and UR E22 (programmable electronic systems); familiarity with UR E26/E27 and the Cyber Resilience Act is a strong advantage
  • Basic understanding of embedded and software-based products, and of software quality assurance in a certification context, including software quality plans and version control of certified configurations
  • Strong documentation skills, with the ability to produce precise compliance matrices, traceability matrices, test plans, and certification dossiers in English
  • Structured and detail-oriented, with the discipline to maintain certificate registers and trackers across multi-year certificate lifecycles
  • Strong coordination and stakeholder management skills, able to align R&D, project teams, test labs, and class surveyors toward certification deadlines
  • Self-driven, able to manage several parallel certification programs and prioritize under deadline pressure
  • Open to working with modern AI tools as part of your daily workflow
  • Fluent in English, both written and spoken; additional languages are an advantage
  • Experience in marine engineering or on board vessels is a strong plus

Why choose us and why we’d choose you?
At NACOS Marine, you’ll become part of a global organization delivering innovative maritime technology solutions to customers around the world. Certification is what allows our systems to reach the bridge, and in this role you will own that process end to end, working with class societies, notified bodies, and our engineering teams.
We value precision, ownership, collaboration, and continuous learning. We’re looking for someone who enjoys bringing order to complex regulatory requirements, keeps track of detail over long timelines, and can keep multiple programs moving toward their deadlines.
