Role Description The Certified Cantonese Interpreter will provide remote interpretation services between Cantonese and English for clients in legal, medical, corporate, and public sector environments. This is a contract role, focused on scheduled sessions as well as on-demand requests via phone or video platforms. Day-to-day responsibilities include accurately conveying spoken messages in real time, maintaining neutrality and confidentiality, and adapting communication style to fit diverse cultural and professional contexts. The interpreter will prepare for assignments by reviewing relevant terminology, follow client-specific protocols, document session details when required, and collaborate with project coordinators to ensure smooth service delivery.

Qualifications

• Strong Cantonese and English language proficiency, including excellent listening, speaking, and comprehension skills.
• Demonstrated experience in professional interpreting, preferably in legal, medical, corporate, or government settings.
• Familiarity with specialized terminology and concepts relevant to high-stakes environments (e.g., healthcare, law, business).
• Certification or formal training in interpreting or translation from a recognized institution or professional body.
• Ability to work effectively in remote settings, including reliable internet access and comfort with phone and video interpreting platforms.
• Strong ethical standards, including commitment to confidentiality, impartiality, and adherence to professional codes of conduct.
• Excellent interpersonal and cross-cultural communication skills, with the ability to remain calm and focused in fast-paced situations.
• Prior experience with transcription, document translation, or cultural consultancy is a plus.
• Availability for flexible scheduling to support clients across different time zones.
