As a CFD Engineer, you will deliver hands-on computational fluid dynamics (CFD) analysis for separation and produced-water treatment equipment, supporting equipment performance, engineering projects and research and development.
You will plan and execute CFD work, assess modelling results and provide practical recommendations while collaborating with process, mechanical, design and project engineers.
The preferred location is Frimley, with Aberdeen and Orkney also considered. This is a hybrid position requiring at least two office days per week, usually three.
The position is based onsite five days per week and works within the local business unit.
Why Join NOV?
Apply your CFD expertise across international engineering projects and emerging technologies, including sustainable aviation fuels. You will have opportunities to connect numerical modelling with pilot-scale physical testing and develop NOV-specific knowledge through coaching and mentoring.
Diversity & Inclusion
At NOV, we are committed to creating an inclusive workplace where everyone can thrive. We value diversity in all its forms and believe different perspectives strengthen our teams, drive innovation, and contribute to our success. We welcome applications from all qualified candidates regardless of gender, age, ethnicity, nationality, disability, sexual orientation, gender identity, religion, or any other characteristic protected by applicable law.
- Plan and deliver CFD analysis for engineering projects, technology development and R&D, focusing on multiphase fluid flow.
- Model separation and produced-water equipment, including vessel internals, flow distribution, residence time, pressure loss and separation performance.
- Select appropriate physical models, boundary conditions, mesh strategies and convergence criteria for technically sound analyses.
- Evaluate the quality, sensitivity and limitations of simulation results and translate findings into practical engineering recommendations.
- Support equipment design, optimisation, performance verification and technical evidence for process guarantees.
- Work with process, mechanical, design and project engineers to define analysis requirements and resolve technical challenges.
- Prepare technical reports and present CFD findings to internal teams and external customers.
- Manage assigned CFD activities and priorities, communicating technical and delivery risks in a timely manner.
- Contribute to R&D, modelling-method improvements and comparisons between CFD predictions and pilot-scale physical testing.
Essential Qualifications
- Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Chemical/Process Engineering, Aeronautical Engineering, Fluid Dynamics or a closely related engineering discipline.
- Practical experience applying CFD to engineering projects, with strong fluid mechanics and numerical analysis fundamentals.
- Hands-on experience using one or more recognised commercial CFD model, such as Siemens STAR-CCM+ or ANSYS Fluent
- Good understanding of multiphase flow modelling and the ability to assess assumptions and numerical results critically.
- Ability to independently plan and deliver CFD work, manage priorities and communicate practical technical recommendations.
- Clear technical reporting and communication skills, with the ability to collaborate across engineering disciplines.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience delivering complex CFD work independently; approximately three to four years of postgraduate experience is indicative, not a strict threshold.
- Master’s degree, chartered engineer status or membership of an appropriate professional body.
- Experience in separation or produced-water equipment, Lagrangian particle tracking, FEA, process guarantees, R&D or physical-test correlation.
