Inspired Search is proud to be retained by IOP Publishing (IOPP) on the search for its next Chief Financial Officer.

IOP Publishing is one of the world's leading scientific publishers, supporting researchers, institutions and the wider scientific community through journals, books and digital products. As a wholly owned subsidiary of the Institute of Physics, it combines commercial success with a clear purpose: advancing science and its impact on society.

Reporting to the IOP Publishing Chief Executive and serving as a statutory director, the CFO will join the IOP Publishing Board and play a key role in shaping the future direction of the business. Working closely as a true Business Partner to the Executive Team, Board and with a dotted line to the Group CFO, the successful candidate will help translate strategic ambition into financial plans, investment decisions and sustainable growth for the IOP Group.

This is a broad and influential leadership position spanning financial strategy, business performance, governance, risk, international operations and organisational effectiveness. The CFO will oversee a finance function of c. 40 people delivering effective group reporting and operational support for group companies.

The scholarly publishing sector is evolving rapidly, shaped by Open Science, AI, changing research funding models and increasing international complexity. IOP Publishing is seeking a financially astute and commercially minded leader who can provide clarity, insight and confidence in this environment.

Candidates will bring a recognised accounting qualification (ACA, ACCA or CIMA), significant senior finance leadership experience and a track record of partnering executive teams on strategy, investment and organisational change. Experience within scholarly publishing, information services or a knowledge business will be highly valued, and experience with international jurisdictions is required.

For a CFO seeking a high-impact leadership role at the intersection of science, publishing and innovation, this represents a rare opportunity to influence the future of a globally respected organisation.

The role will be based from the Bristol office, with a hybrid working policy.
