About NewEdge Power
NewEdge Power is a pure-play clean energy development platform focused on developing high return utility-scale and distributed power solutions across the United States. NewEdge is a dynamic, high-growth, and entrepreneurial company. As a nimble and geographically dispersed team, the company is committed to fostering an environment of inclusion, teamwork, and delivering high impact for both the business and the communities it serves.

NewEdge seeks a seasoned utility-scale commercial leader with deep market relationships, strong structuring judgment, and emotional intelligence to build and lead the company’s origination and commercialization function across its utility-scale battery storage and solar pipeline in PJM, MISO, and ERCOT. The Chief Commercial Officer / VP Origination position spans both commercial contracting and market intelligence, and requires command of wholesale power products and revenue structures, a real-time view of prevailing offtake rates and terms, established relationships with utility and large-load offtakers, and the ability to convert a development-stage pipeline into contracted and financeable value.

Your Core Responsibilities

  • Commercial Strategy: Own NewEdge’s commercial strategy for its utility-scale storage and solar portfolio, including target markets and counterparties, product mix (tolling, capacity, energy, ancillary services, RECs), and contracting timelines aligned to project development milestones.
  • Origination & Offtake: Originate, structure, and negotiate long-term offtake, including tolling agreements, capacity contracts, PPAs/VPPAs, hedges, and build-transfer or development-transfer agreements, with utilities, load-serving entities, co-ops, municipals, retail providers, and large-load customers. Lead RFP responses and bilateral pursuits.
  • Market Intelligence & Offtake Pricing: Own NewEdge’s view of the offtake market, tracking prevailing tolling, capacity, PPA, and hedge rates, tenors, and key terms across PJM, MISO, and ERCOT through RFP results, counterparty dialogue, broker quotes, and comparable transactions. Partner with Finance to translate that intelligence into pricing, revenue forecasts, and valuation assumptions, including capacity market outcomes (PJM BRA, MISO PRA, ERCOT ancillary markets) and basis and congestion exposure. Manage third-party market forecast consultants.
  • Market & Policy: Track wholesale market design, capacity market reform, state procurement programs, and large-load tariff developments, and translate them into pipeline and siting priorities. Represent NewEdge at industry conferences and with key stakeholders.
  • Leadership: Build and lead the origination function as the platform scales, serve on the executive team, and support Board, investor, and capital partner communications.
  • Other: NewEdge is a rapidly growing organization. Job duties may evolve over time to best support the continued growth of the business.

Experience Qualifiers
  • Chief Commercial Officer: 15+ years of experience in the power sector, including 8+ years leading origination, structured commercial transactions, or energy trading at an IPP, renewable developer, utility, or trading organization.
  • VP Origination: 10+ years of experience in the energy sector, including 5+ years originating and closing utility-scale storage and/or solar offtake in PJM, MISO, and/or ERCOT.

Required Experience
  • Bachelor’s degree in business, economics, finance, engineering, or a related field.
  • Demonstrated track record of originating and closing long-term offtake agreements for utility-scale storage and/or solar projects.
  • Existing senior-level relationships with utilities, load-serving entities, and/or large commercial offtakers in PJM, MISO, and/or ERCOT.
  • Deep understanding of wholesale market structures and products (capacity, energy, ancillary services), transmission and congestion, and the regulatory and legislative landscape.
  • Command of key commercial agreements, including tolling agreements, PPAs/VPPAs, EEI/ISDA master agreements, and BTAs/DTAs.
  • Current, data-driven view of offtake pricing and market terms, and the ability to work alongside Finance on pricing, valuation, and risk allocation and present clear recommendations to executives, the Board, and capital partners.
  • Strong negotiation, communication, and executive presence.
  • Ability to travel 25%-40% of the time for customer meetings, conferences, and transaction activity.
  • Highly analytical mindset with a curiosity to figure new things out.
  • Team player with a willingness to engage across the organization.
  • High degree of emotional intelligence and respect for others.
  • Self-starter with a strong passion for the clean energy industry.

Preferred Differentiators
  • MBA or other advanced degree.
  • Prior experience in an entrepreneurial environment and/or a small-to-medium size development company or growth-stage IPP.
  • Experience with data center and large-load customers, including co-location and behind-the-meter structures.
