Description

We are ERock!

ERock (NYSE: EROC) is enabling energy for a new era. ERock delivers onsite utility-grade power that gets customers up and running quickly, while supporting long-term grid development. ERock’s proprietary natural gas generators help critical facilities address grid constraints, interconnection delays, and outage risks while accelerating speed-to-power for new and expanding operations. Trusted by data centers, utilities, manufacturers, healthcare systems and government organizations, ERock engineers for rapid deployment, long-duration reliability, low local emissions, and scalable performance to meet the evolving energy demands of today and tomorrow.

What you'll do:

We are seeking an accomplished and strategic Chief Electrical Engineer to provide technical leadership and direction across all electrical engineering activities at ERock. This role will serve as a senior technical authority, responsible for establishing the long-term electrical engineering strategy, advancing technical capabilities, and ensuring high standards of engineering quality, reliability, and safety across our distributed generation and microgrid projects.

The Chief Electrical Engineer will provide leadership across high-voltage (HV), medium-voltage (MV), and low-voltage (LV) power systems, with a strong focus on utility grid integration, protection and control systems, and advanced power system solutions. This individual will also establish engineering standards and best practices, guide complex technical decisions, mentor and develop engineers, and help shape the future technical direction of ERock's electrical engineering organization. The ideal candidate will bring extensive power systems expertise, a proven record of leading complex electrical engineering initiatives, and the ability to provide strategic and technical direction across projects from concept through commissioning. This position reports to the VP of Microgrid Engineering and offers a hybrid schedule based out of our headquarters in downtown Houston, TX. Remote applicants with convenient access to a major metropolitan airport are also welcome to apply.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide senior technical leadership and strategic direction for electrical engineering, aligning engineering priorities with company objectives, project requirements, and evolving industry needs.
  • Define and advance the long-term technical roadmap for electrical systems supporting distributed generation, microgrids, and other energy infrastructure.
  • Serve as a senior technical authority and advisor on complex electrical engineering matters, including critical design decisions, technical problem-solving, engineering risk, and design reviews.
  • Provide technical oversight for the design and implementation of HV, MV, and LV electrical systems, ensuring performance, reliability, constructability, and safety.
  • Lead technical strategies for generation and utility grid integration, including interconnection requirements, grid stability, power quality, and compliance with applicable utility and regulatory requirements.
  • Guide the development and application of protection and control systems, including protective relaying, substation automation, and related control technologies.
  • Provide technical oversight for complex power system studies, including load flow, short circuit, protection coordination, arc flash, transient stability, harmonic analysis, and electromagnetic transient studies.
  • Establish and maintain electrical engineering standards, specifications, processes, tools, and quality-control practices across the organization.
  • Mentor and develop electrical engineers and technical teams, promoting technical excellence, knowledge sharing, and continuous professional development.
  • Collaborate with executive leadership, Project Management, Operations, Sales, and other engineering disciplines to support successful project execution and strategic initiatives.
  • Represent ERock as a technical expert in discussions with clients, utilities, industry organizations, and other external stakeholders, as appropriate.
  • Ensure electrical engineering practices and deliverables comply with applicable codes, standards, and safety requirements, including NEC, IEEE, UL, IEC, and NESC requirements, as applicable.
  • Provide technical guidance for utility- and customer-owned substation design, including layouts, equipment specifications, protection and control systems, and design reviews.

  • Demonstrated experience providing senior technical leadership for complex electrical engineering projects, programs, or engineering organizations.
  • Professional Engineer (PE) license.
  • Extensive technical expertise in HV, MV, and LV power systems, including power distribution, switchgear, transformers, protection and controls, and utility grid interconnection.
  • Demonstrated expertise in utility interconnection, generation integration, protection systems, and protective relaying.
  • Advanced experience with power system studies, including load flow, short circuit, protection coordination, arc flash, transient stability, harmonics, and/or electromagnetic transient analysis.
  • Proficiency with relevant power system analysis software such as ETAP, SKM PowerTools, PSCAD, PSS/E, DIgSILENT PowerFactory, or CYME.
  • Strong working knowledge of applicable electrical codes and standards, including NEC, IEEE, NESC, UL, IEC, and ANSI, as applicable to project requirements.
  • Demonstrated ability to establish engineering standards, provide technical oversight, manage competing priorities, and guide complex projects from concept through commissioning.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to communicate complex technical concepts to engineering teams, executive stakeholders, clients, utilities, and other business partners.
  • Demonstrated ability to mentor and develop engineers and promote technical excellence across an engineering organization.
