FRACTIONAL CHIEF FINANCIAL OFFICER (CFO)
Tanzee | International Beauty & Retail Brand | Melbourne
Location: Melbourne or sydney, Australia (Melbourne preferable)
Engagement: Part-time / Fractional, ongoing
Working arrangement: Flexible / Hybrid
ABOUT TANZEE
Tanzee is an Australian beauty brand bringing a fresh perspective to self-tanning through innovative, skincare-led products and considered design.
With established retail partnerships including Boots UK, Priceline Australia and Lookfantastic, we’re entering an exciting phase of international growth.
As we continue to expand our retail presence, develop new products and explore opportunities in new markets, we’re seeking an experienced Fractional CFO to support our financial strategy, commercial decision-making and sustainable growth.
THE OPPORTUNITY
We’re looking for a commercially astute finance leader who can bring financial clarity, sound judgement and strategic insight to a growing international consumer brand.
Working closely with our Founder & Managing Director, shareholders and external advisors, you’ll provide senior financial oversight, support business planning and help guide key commercial and strategic decisions.
This is a hands-on, collaborative fractional role suited to someone who enjoys partnering with founder-led businesses and can balance high-level financial strategy with practical commercial guidance.
You’ll work alongside our existing accountants and bookkeepers, providing financial leadership and oversight without responsibility for day-to-day accounting administration.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Financial oversight & reporting
• Oversee monthly financial reporting, including profit and loss, balance sheets and cash flow.
• Develop and maintain budgets, forecasts and financial models to support business planning.
• Monitor financial performance against budgets, identifying key variances, risks and opportunities.
• Collaborate with external accountants and bookkeepers to ensure accurate reporting and appropriate financial controls.
• Provide clear financial insights and recommendations to support informed decision-making.
Budgeting & commercial decision support
• Partner closely with the Founder & Managing Director on budgets, cash flow, expenditure planning and investment priorities.
• Provide practical financial guidance on inventory purchasing, product development, sampling initiatives, marketing expenditure and retail investments.
• Assess the timing and affordability of business investments based on cash flow forecasts and financial priorities.
• Support profitability analysis and financial planning across wholesale, retail and direct-to-consumer channels.
International finance & strategic advisory
• Provide financial guidance on international operations, banking arrangements, foreign exchange and cross-border financial management.
• Collaborate with shareholders, directors and external advisors on corporate structures, international expansion and financial governance.
• Support financial modelling, funding requirements and future capital raising as required.
• Advise on financial risks and opportunities associated with international growth.
Stakeholder engagement
• Work directly with the Founder, shareholders and directors to provide financial updates and strategic recommendations.
• Participate in regular financial review meetings, including in-person meetings with our Melbourne-based shareholder/director.
• Communicate financial information clearly and confidently, providing practical insights to support strategic and operational decisions.
ABOUT YOU
We’re looking for someone who combines senior financial expertise with strong commercial judgement and a collaborative, solutions-focused approach.
You’ll ideally bring:
• Proven experience as a CFO, Finance Director or senior finance leader, ideally within a growing consumer business.
• Experience in beauty, FMCG, retail, e-commerce or other inventory-based businesses.
• Strong expertise in financial reporting, budgeting, forecasting, cash flow management and financial modelling.
• Experience with international operations, banking arrangements and multi-entity financial structures.
• Confidence working directly with founders, shareholders, directors and external advisors.
• Experience supporting business expansion, investment planning or capital raising.
• Strong commercial acumen and the ability to translate financial information into clear, practical recommendations.
• A proactive, organised and collaborative approach, with the confidence to provide independent financial advice.
CA or CPA qualifications are highly regarded, alongside demonstrated senior financial leadership experience.
THE PERSON WE’RE LOOKING FOR
Beyond technical expertise, we’re looking for someone who will become a trusted financial partner to our leadership team.
Someone who is approachable, reliable, commercially minded and enjoys working collaboratively.
You’ll be comfortable taking initiative, identifying opportunities and providing practical guidance, while understanding the pace and evolving priorities of a growing founder-led business.
We’re looking for someone who brings both strategic perspective and financial discipline, with a strong interest in helping build a successful international brand.
WORKING ARRANGEMENTS
This is an ongoing fractional position, initially anticipated at approximately 6 to 10 hours per week, with flexibility depending on business requirements.
Applicants must be based in Melbourne and available for regular in-person meetings with our Melbourne-based shareholder/director.
The role offers flexibility for remote work alongside ongoing collaboration with our Founder & Managing Director, leadership team and external advisors.
We’re looking to establish a long-term working relationship, with the opportunity for the role to evolve as the business grows.
HOW TO APPLY
If you’re an experienced finance leader with a strong commercial mindset and an interest in supporting the growth of an ambitious international beauty brand, we’d love to hear from you.
