POSITION OVERVIEW - The Opportunity

DISH is seeking an accomplished and collaborative Chief Financial Officer to serve as the organization’s executive financial leader and a strategic partner to the CEO, executive leadership team, and Board of Directors.

The next CFO joins DISH at an important point in its evolution. The organization has an experienced finance team with strong knowledge of day-to-day financial operations and public funding. The opportunity is to build on that foundation, bringing deep accounting expertise, strong forecasting and analysis, and a forward-looking approach to financial strategy.

This is a role for a CFO who wants to do more than oversee the numbers. DISH is looking for a leader who can help the organization understand what the numbers mean, anticipate what is coming next, and use financial information to make thoughtful decisions about programs, people, resources, and long-term sustainability.

DISH operates with an annual budget of approximately $20M+, with revenue from City and County contracts, programmatic grants, rental income, and philanthropic contributions. The organization operates multiple supportive housing sites across San Francisco in a complex public funding environment.

The CFO will report to the CEO and serve as a key member of the executive leadership team.

RESPONSIBILITIES - What You'll Lead

• Develop a multi-year financial sustainability plan that provides visibility into future funding, cash needs, operating requirements, program economics, risks, and strategic choices.
• Lead financial planning, forecasting, budgeting, accounting, reporting, cash management, audit, internal controls, and risk management.
• Bring strong GAAP and accounting expertise to complement the finance team’s existing operational strengths.
• Strengthen forecasting, dashboards, and financial analysis so leaders have timely, meaningful information for decision-making.
• Build financial literacy and shared accountability across executive leadership, program leadership, and the Board.
• Prepare DISH for an evolving public funding environment, including anticipated changes in City procurement, reimbursement, and performance-based contracting.
• Ensure compliance with government contracts, grants, nonprofit accounting standards, and regulatory requirements.
• Assess and strengthen financial, payroll, and administrative systems and lead improvements where needed.
• Serve as a trusted financial advisor to the CEO, executive team, Board, and Finance Committee.
• Lead, mentor, and develop the finance team while building strong partnerships across programs, operations, Human Resources, and Administration.
• Provide executive oversight of Human Resources and/or Administrative functions as DISH’s organizational structure continues to evolve.

QUALIFICATIONS - What You'll Bring

• Significant senior financial leadership experience, including responsibility for accounting, budgeting, forecasting, financial reporting, audit, cash management, insurance/riskmanagement and internal controls
• Strong knowledge of GAAP and a substantive accounting foundation
• The ability to move beyond historical reporting to forecasting, scenario planning, and strategic financial analysis
• Experience leading and developing finance teams
• The ability to translate complex financial information into clear, useful guidance for non-financial leaders
• Experience partnering with executive leadership and Boards
• Experience navigating organizational growth, transition, systems change, or other periods of evolution
• Strong judgment, curiosity, communication skills, and a collaborative, hands-on leadership style
• A bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, business administration, or a related field, or equivalent experience
• Experience in nonprofit finance, government contracting, supportive housing, healthcare, human services, or another complex publicly funded or regulated environment is highly valued but not required.
• Experience overseeing or partnering closely with Human Resources, payroll, and/or administrative functions is also valued.
• A CPA, MBA, or comparable advanced professional credential is preferred.

Work Environment

This is a San Francisco-based leadership role with a meaningful in-person component. The CFO is expected to work onsite at DISH’s Central Office approximately three days per week and spend time at DISH’s supportive housing sites throughout San Francisco.

DISH is looking for a CFO who wants to know the organization beyond its financial statements. Building relationships with staff and understanding programs and operations firsthand are important parts of the role.
