The Opportunity:

WATT is looking for an experienced civil engineering professional with strong project management skills to deliver projects, build client relationships, and help grow our civil engineering practice in Alberta. This opportunity is well suited to someone who wants to remain actively involved in engineering while taking greater ownership of project delivery, client service, financial performance, and business development.

WATT’s civil business is growing, and this role offers the opportunity to help shape that growth. You will lead land development and municipal infrastructure projects, apply sound engineering judgment, deepen existing client and industry relationships, develop new ones, and help turn those relationships into repeat work and new opportunities.

This is an opportunity for an engineer who wants to expand their influence beyond project delivery and play a meaningful role in shaping client relationships, project outcomes, and the future growth of WATT's civil engineering practice.

What You Will Do at WATT:

Engineering and Project Delivery

  • Lead civil engineering projects from planning and design through approvals, tendering, construction support, and close-out.
  • Apply sound engineering judgment and remain actively involved in developing practical solutions for land development, municipal infrastructure, and site development projects.
  • Prepare and review engineering drawings, calculations, reports, servicing strategies, specifications, estimates, and construction documents.
  • Lead the design of grading, drainage, stormwater management, water and sanitary servicing, roadworks, earthworks, and utility systems.
  • Develop project scopes, fees, schedules, budgets, resource plans, and delivery strategies.
  • Manage project finances, earned revenue, profitability, scope, schedule, risks, changes, and overall performance.
  • Navigate municipal approvals, respond to regulatory and technical review comments, and maintain strong quality-control practices throughout project delivery.

Clients and Business Growth

  • Serve as a trusted technical and project-management contact for clients, municipalities, developers, contractors, and project partners.
  • Deepen existing client and industry relationships and develop new ones across the land development and municipal infrastructure sectors.
  • Understand client needs and turn strong project delivery and trusted relationships into repeat work and new opportunities.
  • Identify and pursue opportunities that align with WATT’s capabilities and growth priorities.
  • Prepare compelling proposals, scopes, fees, and project approaches that respond to client needs and position WATT to win work.
  • Represent WATT at client meetings, industry events, stakeholder workshops, and project presentations.

Practice Development and Collaboration

  • Coordinate engineers, technologists, coordinators, and other project delivery professionals to support successful project outcomes.
  • Work collaboratively with WATT’s civil engineering, geomatics, transportation, geotechnical, environmental, and construction services teams.
  • Provide practical technical guidance and support to project team members.
  • Mentor developing professionals and help strengthen their engineering judgment, project-management skills, and client awareness.
  • Help improve civil engineering standards, tools, workflows, and quality practices.
  • Contribute to resource planning and identify skills or capabilities needed to support project delivery and practice growth.

What You Bring:

  • Registration with APEGA as a P.Eng., P.L.(Eng.), or P.Tech.(Eng.), or eligibility to register within three months of joining WATT.
  • Five to eight years of progressive civil engineering experience, ideally in consulting, land development, municipal infrastructure, or site development.
  • Experience leading civil projects through design, approvals, tendering, construction support, and close-out.
  • Strong technical knowledge of grading, drainage, stormwater management, water, sanitary servicing, roadworks, earthworks, and utilities.
  • Experience managing project scopes, fees, budgets, earned revenue, profitability, and schedules.
  • Working knowledge of Alberta municipal approval processes, regulatory requirements, design standards, and applicable codes and guidelines.
  • Experience preparing and reviewing drawings, technical reports, calculations, specifications, estimates, schedules, and proposals.
  • Demonstrated ability to coordinate multidisciplinary teams, mentor staff, and manage multiple priorities while maintaining quality, schedule, and budget.
  • A track record of building trusted client and industry relationships, developing new opportunities, preparing proposals, and contributing to repeat business and new work.
  • Working knowledge of AutoCAD Civil 3D; familiarity with hydrologic, hydraulic, or stormwater modelling software is an asset.
  • Valid Class 5 Driver's licence and ability to attend client meetings, site reviews, and project locations as required.

What Success Looks Like:

In Your First Six Months

  • You have taken ownership of assigned civil projects and established clear expectations for scope, schedule, budget, quality, and communication.
  • You are applying sound engineering judgment and contributing directly to technical solutions and project decisions.
  • You have built productive relationships with key clients, municipalities, project partners, and internal teams.
  • Your projects meet expectations for technical quality, financial performance, schedule, and client service.
  • You understand WATT’s civil capabilities, project pipeline, clients, and growth opportunities.
  • You are actively supporting proposals, strengthening client relationships, and pursuing priority business-development opportunities.

Within 12 Months

  • You are consistently delivering high-quality civil projects that meet expectations for profitability, budget, schedule, and client service.
  • Existing client relationships have deepened and are generating repeat work, while new relationships are creating additional project opportunities.
  • You have become a trusted resource within the Alberta development and municipal infrastructure community and are helping expand WATT’s market presence.
  • Project team members benefit from your technical guidance, project leadership, and mentorship.
  • You are making a meaningful contribution to the growth, reputation, and capabilities of WATT's civil engineering practice.

Ready to Make an Impact?

If you are a civil engineer who wants to stay connected to technical work while taking greater ownership of projects, project financials, clients, and business growth, we would welcome the opportunity to meet you.
