Lochmueller Group has a great opportunity for an experienced civil engineering and project manager to join our Transportation team as a Rail Project Manager . This position will be responsible for leading and delivering rail and rail-adjacent infrastructure projects, including work for public agencies, Class I railroads, short lines, and industrial rail clients. This is a great opportunity for a seasoned professional to lead a variety of rail-related projects while working in a collaborative, people-centric, and values-driven firm. This position can be based out of any of the following locations: Dallas–Fort Worth, TX; Overland Park, KS; Omaha, NE; or Atlanta, GA. Key responsibilities of this role will include: Serving as a Project Manager for rail-focused projects, providing leadership from project initiation through delivery. Managing project scope, budgets, schedules, and resources to ensure successful outcomes. Coordinating and communicating with clients to understand project goals, requirements, and expectations. Leading project teams and delegating work to project staff. Providing technical oversight and guidance related to rail design, analysis, and construction considerations. Taking a lead role in project planning, design, and implementation. Mentoring junior engineers and supporting the professional development of staff. Preparing and reviewing project scopes, fee proposals, schedules, and work plans. Reviewing complete project documents, ensuring quality and compliance with relevant codes, standards, and regulations. Serving as a technical resource and advisor for rail-related initiatives. Qualifications for this role: Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering or a closely related field. 10+ years of progressive experience in rail engineering, rail infrastructure, or transportation-related project management. Professional Engineer (PE) license preferred, but not required. Experience managing complex projects for rail owners, public agencies, or industrial clients. Experience managing projects with CSX, Norfolk Southern, and/or Union Pacific is highly desired. Strong understanding of rail design principles, construction practices, and applicable regulations (e.g., FRA, AREMA, or similar). Demonstrated ability to lead project teams, manage multiple projects, and drive projects to successful completion. Strong verbal and written communication skills. High level of accountability, professionalism, and commitment to quality.
