Brown and Caldwell (BC) is seeking two Senior Civil Engineers to lead high-performing Civil Engineering teams in delivering innovative water, wastewater, and remediation solutions for clients across the West. These leaders will serve as Civil Portfolio Discipline Leaders (PDL) for one of two regional portfolios: (1) Texas, Colorado, Utah, and Idaho, or (2) Washington, Oregon, Vancouver (British Columbia), Hawaii, and Guam. This PDL is a highly-strategic position that requires proven strength in group leadership, design management, and civil engineering design of water and wastewater facilities for our clients. This candidate will lead a team of fellow civil engineers and designers located in multiple offices. As a team leader, the PDL will manage group workload, hiring, and project assignments, as well as provide mentoring and performance feedback for group employees. Key objectives of the Civil PDL role are to: Represent the civil discipline within delivery teams. Ensure the civil discipline has the resources to deliver all design projects in the Portfolio. Support the client portfolio and Portfolio Design Manager to ensure successful project delivery. Support the Portfolio Chief Engineer to ensure successful quality assurance and control of project deliverables. Responsibilities Supervise design discipline employees, including day-to-day oversight, performance feedback, and support for training and development. Provide regular communication and/or meetings with the design discipline team to discuss workload for current and upcoming projects. Support representation of the discipline to the Business Unit Client Sales Team by contributing technical input for sales efforts and proposals. Support development of design discipline scope, schedule, and effort estimates in partnership with PMs and DMs. Coordinate with PMs/DMs regarding staffing, schedule, or scope adjustments and escalate issues to leadership as appropriate. Collaborate with other PDLs and the National Practice Leader within BC to assist with resource planning, workload coordination, technical issues, design workflow, quality, and efficiency. Participate in technical leadership meetings for the specific design discipline and communicate relevant information and direction to the team. Contribute to the development and implementation of design discipline–specific standards (e.g., specifications, standard details, etc.) in coordination with the National Practice Leader. Maintain and update workload tracking tools for the specific design discipline to understand team capacity and identify potential gaps. Support the development of professional networks and relationships with subconsultants and on-call supplemental resources and assist with their engagement on projects as needed. Assist with tracking and maintaining professional engineer registration coverage for the specific design discipline based on business needs. Perform QA/QC reviews for selected projects and support adherence to BC quality standards for project deliverables. Lead, develop, and coach a high-performing team by setting clear expectations, providing feedback, and fostering a culture of engagement, growth, and accountability. Oversee workload planning, performance management, and team operations to align resources with business objectives while ensuring compliance with company policies and regulations. Flexibility to adapt and execute various additional assignments based on evolving needs. Skills and Competencies Demonstrated people leadership and design coordination skills. Ability to balance team and project needs while managing multiple priorities, including discipline support, design activities, and project delivery services. Ability to support proposal technical approach development and assist with design discipline effort budgeting. Strong written and oral communication skills with the ability to contribute to presentations and technical written materials. Effective interpersonal skills to motivate staff, support collaboration, and maintain positive team morale. Enthusiastic, self-motivated, and able to work independently with a willingness to learn and grow. Results-oriented and able to perform effectively under tight and sometimes pressured deadlines. Experience Typically requires a minimum of 8 years of relevant experience in the design discipline specific or related field. Professional Engineer registration or applicable licensure is required. Typically will become certified in BC's Subject Matter Specialist (SMS) Framework and progress through the SMS competencies. Education A bachelor’s degree in architectural, civil, environmental, sanitary, chemical, , electrical, controls, or mechanical engineering or related field, or equivalent relevant experience is required. Salary Range: The anticipated starting pay range for this position is based on the employee’s primary work location and may be more or less depending upon skills, experience, and education.
