Position Summary

The Claims and Labeling Manager is responsible for the policies and procedures that support the use of claims and labels related to the standards systems. This role combines criteria development, policy management, guidance development, and content expertise; and collaborates with internal teams on claims maker support, stakeholder engagement, and communications. This role will manage direct report(s), including goal setting, performance management, coaching, and professional development.

Key Responsibilities

  • Ensure the consistent, accurate and credible application of claims and labeling requirements across Textile Exchange standards, supporting stakeholder confidence and trust in the integrity of certified claims.
  • Enable effective stakeholder use of claims and labels by providing expert guidance and claims submission approval support, resulting in timely and consistent outcomes for standards users and certification bodies.
  • Drive stakeholder understanding and adoption of claims and labeling requirements through clear guidance, training and education, reducing confusion and improving complaince across the system.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities

  • Manage the development and revisions of the standards system claims and labeling policies and associated documents, including drafting/revising criteria, holding meetings with internal and external key stakeholders, facilitating public and targeted consultations, and the finalization and publication of new versions of the documents. 
  • Manage ISEAL code compliance and best practice as it relates to claims.
  • Develop procedures, guidance and tools to support the standard system claims framework.
  • Collaborate with internal legislation experts to understand risks and opportunities related to developing or existing legislative requirements.
  • Collaborate other departments and teams to support stakeholders and their use of the Textile Exchange trademarks and credible claims; 
  • Manage inquiries from external stakeholders regarding claims and trademark use via the case management system.

Secondary Duties and Responsibilities

  • Manage team members, including goal setting, performance management and professional development.
  • Serve as lead on key projects related to claims and labeling.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

  • 5+ years of experience working with voluntary standards and/or verification programs.
  • Possess strong understanding of credible sustainability claims and trademark use related to certification.  
  • Demonstrated experience managing and developing staff, including performance management, coaching and professional development.
  • Confident and highly capable of leading projects, managing deadlines, and delivering on workplans. 
  • Able to work with a diverse group of internal and external stakeholders globally, and comfortable with a dynamic environment. 
  • Detail-oriented, logical, systematic, methodical, and highly organized.  
  • Excellent written and grammatical skills in English to draft technical content. Ability to synthesize and present complex information in a simple, meaningful way.  
  • Familiarity with business analytics tools such as Power BI and CRM tools such as Salesforce.
  • A driven individual with a strong work ethic and high degree of autonomy; self-starting and proactive.  
  • Demonstrated interest in Textile Exchange’s vision, mission, and goals.  
  • ​Ability to work in a flexible, yet fast-paced remote environment, able to meet deadlines and share progress regularly.
  • Flexibility of working across multiple time zones and ability to overlap with the North American time zones for parts of the workday. 
  • Experience working at an international organization. 
  • Ability to travel occasionally for conferences, work meetings and industry events.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience working in global textile supply chains, and comprehensive understanding of global supply chains and stakeholders.
  • Understanding of the Empowering Consumers Directive (ECD).
  • Experience with ISEAL compliant schemes.

Employment Package

  • Full-Time Position, 40 Hours a Week
  • Required travel: <10%
  • Annual Salary Range: $75,000 - $100,000 USD
