About the team

Stevens is a small software consultancy. Companies hire us to build software, advise on technology decisions, or add experienced people to their teams. Our clients range from venture-backed startups to publicly traded companies.

Every engagement has two sides. One is the work itself. The other is the relationship: whether the client feels heard, whether decisions get made well, and whether they trust us enough to keep working with us. That second side is yours.

About the role

You'll own the relationship with two to three of our clients. Our delivery team is accountable for what gets built. You're accountable for whether the client is happy, whether the engagement is healthy, and whether it grows. On every account, you and the team leading the work are partners.

That means you're the person who understands each client's business, who knows what they're worried about before they say it, and who makes sure that what we deliver is what they actually need. When a client wants something new, you lead the conversation. You dig into what they're trying to achieve, bring the right people to the table, and drive the decision to a clear outcome.

Say a client's head of marketing asks for a new feature halfway through a project. You find out what's driving the request. You bring in our team to size it, loop in the client's project sponsor who controls the budget, and bring in Stevens leadership if it changes the deal. Then you lay out the options, help everyone decide, and make sure the decision is written down and understood on both sides. Nothing moves forward until you've made sure it should.

When a client wants more help from us, you'll be the one who sees it coming and starts the conversation. There's no sales quota. Your job is to make clients glad they hired us, and growth follows from that.

Why join us

We're a small team, which means you'll be the face of Stevens to our clients, with real ownership from day one. You'll work alongside founders, executives, and product leaders across very different companies, so the work stays interesting. You'll work directly with Stevens leadership, not through layers of management, and because this function is new, you'll define how we take care of clients as we grow.

The role starts part-time on a three-month contract, with a clear path to full-time as your accounts grow.

In this role, you will

  • Own the relationship with two to three client accounts, from day-to-day contacts through executive sponsors.

  • Be the first person clients call, and the person they trust to give them a straight answer.

  • Run regular check-ins and send status updates clients actually read.

  • Lead the conversation when a client's needs change, bringing together the right people from Stevens and the client's side and driving decisions to a clear outcome.

  • Turn client requests into clear requirements our team can build from.

  • Watch timelines and budgets, and act early when something is drifting.

  • Identify where a client could use more help from us, and open that conversation with the client and Stevens leadership.

  • Keep clean records of decisions and conversations, so there's never confusion about what was agreed.

You'll bring

  • Three or more years in account management, client success, or a client-facing project role.

  • A track record of building trust with senior people at client organizations, and steadiness in difficult conversations about timelines, budget, or expectations.

  • A knack for understanding what a client really wants and explaining it clearly to a technical team.

  • Enough familiarity with how software gets built to ask sharp questions and set realistic expectations. Writing code isn't part of the job, but understanding the people who do is.

  • Experience managing several clients at once without letting any of them feel neglected.

  • Clear, concise writing.

Experience at a consultancy or agency is a plus.

How we work

Client trust matters. We build it through realistic commitments, visible progress, thoughtful handling of feedback, and early communication when something changes. In this role, you're at the center of that.

We expect you to ask questions, raise concerns early, and speak up for the client inside Stevens as much as you represent Stevens to the client.

Engagement and compensation

This role begins as an independent contractor engagement, either corp-to-corp through your own LLC or corporation or as a 1099 contractor. It is open only to contractors who reside and perform their work in the United States throughout the engagement.

  • Location: Remote, for candidates based in the Central Florida area. We may hold in-person workshops with clients or the team from time to time.

  • Hours: 10 hours per week guaranteed during the contract, with some availability during Eastern Time business hours for client meetings.

  • Initial engagement: three months, working with two to three client accounts.

  • Contract rate: $40–$60 per hour, based on experience.

  • Expected full-time compensation on conversion: approximately $80,000 per year (W-2), plus benefits.

Contractors record hours in Stevens' time-tracking system, and payments are processed every two weeks through our contractor payroll platform. The contractor agreement will define the engagement terms, and final terms for full-time conversion will be confirmed before the initial contract ends.

Selected candidates will also be required to complete a criminal background screening and identity verification. We'll provide instructions and obtain any required authorization before initiating screening.
