The Role
We are seeking an experienced and strategic Climate Strategy Manager to lead the development and implementation of the organization's climate strategy, decarbonization roadmap, climate targets, transition planning, climate-risk assessment, scenario analysis, climate governance, and climate-related performance management.
The ideal candidate will translate climate science, regulatory developments, emissions data, business risks, market trends, and emerging opportunities into practical strategies that strengthen resilience, reduce greenhouse-gas emissions, support the transition to a low-carbon economy, and create long-term business value.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop and implement the organization's climate strategy, climate action framework, policies, governance structures, roadmaps, and annual implementation plans.
- Translate organizational climate ambitions into measurable objectives, targets, initiatives, investment priorities, and operational actions.
- Develop long-term climate strategies aligned with organizational growth, sustainability, ESG, risk-management, and business objectives.
- Develop and maintain credible decarbonization and net-zero transition roadmaps.
- Establish short-, medium-, and long-term greenhouse-gas reduction targets and implementation milestones.
- Assess the organization's current emissions profile, climate dependencies, transition readiness, operational exposure, and decarbonization potential.
- Work closely with Carbon Accounting teams to interpret Scope 1, Scope 2, and Scope 3 emissions data and identify priority reduction opportunities.
- Analyze emissions trends, carbon hotspots, emissions drivers, and business activities with significant climate impact.
- Develop emissions-reduction pathways across energy, buildings, operations, transportation, procurement, supply chains, products, waste, and other relevant activities.
- Identify, evaluate, and prioritize decarbonization levers based on emissions impact, cost, feasibility, technology readiness, operational requirements, regulatory expectations, and strategic value.
- Develop climate-transition portfolios covering renewable energy, energy efficiency, electrification, low-carbon technologies, sustainable procurement, logistics optimization, material efficiency, circular economy, and other relevant measures.
- Develop business cases for major climate initiatives in collaboration with Finance, Operations, Engineering, Procurement, and other relevant teams.
- Assess capital requirements, operating costs, financial benefits, carbon-abatement potential, payback, lifecycle costs, and investment risks associated with climate initiatives.
- Establish marginal-abatement-cost and other appropriate frameworks to support prioritization of decarbonization investments.
- Develop climate investment strategies and recommendations for senior leadership and executive decision-making.
- Integrate climate considerations into corporate strategy, business planning, capital allocation, enterprise risk management, procurement, investment decisions, and major projects.
- Develop climate criteria and decision-making frameworks for evaluating strategic investments, acquisitions, projects, assets, suppliers, and business opportunities.
- Conduct climate scenario analysis covering physical and transition risks under relevant climate pathways.
- Assess potential impacts of different climate scenarios on operations, assets, supply chains, markets, customers, costs, revenues, capital requirements, and business continuity.
- Develop climate-risk assessments across facilities, operations, projects, geographies, assets, suppliers, and value chains.
- Identify physical climate risks including extreme heat, drought, flooding, water stress, storms, sea-level rise, wildfire, changing precipitation patterns, and other relevant hazards.
- Identify transition risks including policy changes, carbon pricing, technology disruption, market shifts, changing customer expectations, energy-system transformation, and regulatory developments.
- Identify climate-related opportunities including renewable energy, energy efficiency, new technologies, sustainable products, resilient infrastructure, climate finance, green markets, and emerging business models.
- Develop climate-risk registers, heat maps, mitigation strategies, adaptation plans, and resilience programs.
- Integrate climate risks and opportunities into enterprise risk-management and business-continuity frameworks.
- Develop climate adaptation and resilience strategies for significant physical climate risks.
- Collaborate with Water Resources, Environmental Programs, Energy Efficiency, Renewable Energy, and other relevant teams on climate-resilience initiatives.
- Assess water, energy, infrastructure, supply-chain, and operational dependencies that may be affected by climate change.
- Develop climate-resilient operating models, asset strategies, infrastructure plans, and business-continuity measures where appropriate.
- Monitor climate science, climate policy, carbon markets, energy-transition trends, technology developments, and regulatory expectations.
- Assess the implications of international, regional, and UAE climate policies for the organization's strategy and operations.
- Monitor developments in climate-related regulations, disclosure requirements, carbon pricing, emissions trading, transition plans, renewable-energy policies, and environmental standards.
- Coordinate with Government Relations and Public Policy teams on climate policy, government initiatives, national climate strategies, regulatory developments, and stakeholder engagement.
- Engage with government authorities, regulators, industry associations, investors, customers, NGOs, research institutions, technology providers, and other relevant stakeholders.
Ideal Candidate
The successful candidate should have experience in climate strategy, sustainability, ESG, decarbonization, carbon management, climate risk, energy transition, environmental strategy, corporate strategy, or related fields.
Experience working with multinational corporations, consulting firms, financial institutions, energy companies, infrastructure organizations, manufacturers, real estate, construction, technology, or other complex organizations is highly advantageous.
The candidate should demonstrate:
- Strong understanding of climate strategy, decarbonization, net-zero transition, climate risks, climate opportunities, and energy transition.
- Proven experience developing and implementing corporate climate strategies, transition plans, decarbonization roadmaps, or climate programs.
- Strong understanding of Scope 1, Scope 2, and Scope 3 emissions and their implications for corporate climate strategy.
- Experience working with carbon-accounting teams, emissions inventories, carbon data, emissions targets, and climate-performance metrics.
- Strong understanding of physical and transition climate risks and experience conducting climate-risk assessments.
- Experience with climate scenario analysis, stress testing, resilience assessments, or climate-related strategic planning.
- Strong understanding of major decarbonization levers including renewable energy, energy efficiency, electrification, sustainable procurement, low-carbon technologies, logistics, circular economy, and supply-chain transformation.
- Experience developing climate-transition pathways and prioritizing emissions-reduction initiatives based on cost, feasibility, emissions impact, and strategic value.
- Strong financial and commercial capabilities, including business-case development, investment analysis, cost-benefit analysis, and climate-related financial assessment.
- Experience assessing carbon pricing, climate policy, regulatory risks, market trends, or transition-related financial impacts is highly advantageous.
- Strong understanding of climate-related reporting, ESG disclosures, sustainability reporting, and corporate climate governance.
- Familiarity with recognized climate, GHG accounting, sustainability, risk-management, and climate-disclosure frameworks is highly advantageous.
- Experience working with senior executives, boards, investors, regulators, government agencies, consultants, and other senior stakeholders.
- Strong project and program-management capabilities with experience managing complex, cross-functional climate initiatives.
