Statement of the Position: A Clinical ATP candidate is a licensed and board certified occupational or physical therapist who is seeking a career changing opportunity to become a RESNA certified Assistive Technology Professional (ATP). Clinician candidate must have minimum of 3+ year of clinical practice experience. Familiarization with assistive technology and complex seating and positioning involvement is ideal. Candidates for consideration will partake in a rigorous interview and enrollment process designed to identify the best candidates to become a highly clinical and credible ATP professional within 6 months. The enrolled candidate are expected to take and pass the RESNA Exam at Month 5 in the training cycle and upon completion at Month 6 be a fully functional ATP in an NSM marketplace. Clinical ATP Program Overview Comprehensive 6-month blended learning program which includes directed learning and fieldwork experience Curated Curriculum and experiences designed to accelerate learning and develop competency to become a RESNA credentialed ATP at NSM Assigned fieldwork mentor in local marketplace Executive sponsorship and program support RESNA Exam Test preparation materials and individual coaching Mid-term and Final Performance Evaluation to measure progress and further learning needs. Defining the ATP Role An Assistive Technology Professional (ATP) is a special service leader who analyzes the technology needs of people with disabilities and helps them select and use adaptive devices. ATPs facilitate the evaluation of client’s needs to appropriate rehabilitation products including complex manual and power wheelchairs, custom seating, and other adaptive equipment as directed by the client’s therapist and/or physician. ATPs work in conjunction with the client, therapist, and physician to ensure that: the chosen product adequately meets the client's medical and functional needs, medical justification is present before products are provided, and that health insurance benefits, and coverage are clearly expressed to clients prior to provision of the desired product. These products include, but are not limited to wheelchairs, scooters, seating and positioning products, ambulatory aids, gait trainers, standers, hygiene, transferring, and various other assistive devices. ATP Duties and Responsibilities / Essential Functions Post Training Program Completion Develops new referral sources and clients through professional presentation to potential referral sources and medical personnel. Utilizes all appropriate, ethical, and legal avenues to create and maintain business. Completes proper evaluations to ensure appropriate recommendations for equipment that will best serve the client’s specific need. Ensures evaluations are completed and orders are entered in a timely manner and that all necessary client intake information is documented and forwarded to the correct branch administration. Responsible for assisting with the procurement of letters of medical necessity and/or appropriate medical documentation. Assists in the timely completion of work orders which may involve, but is not limited to, research of components, calculation and extension of equipment prices, responding to requests for additional information and preparation of quotes for clients, referral sources and insurance companies. Provides follow-up on work orders to ensure timely receipt and delivery. Responsible for ensuring proper and timely delivery of equipment to client. Ensures necessary fitting adjustments and equipment modifications occur to guarantee the best possible product for the client. Ensures proper client education occurs regarding equipment use, safety and financial considerations. Ensure that proper client education occurs throughout the process and proper documentation and signatures are obtained. Coordinates with the Technician and branch, as necessary to prepare equipment for delivery, schedule deliveries, and perform repairs and modifications. Follows up, as necessary, to ensure client satisfaction. Maintains knowledge of products, services, techniques, and clinical skills necessary to complete responsibilities. Maintains knowledge and adheres to NSM’s policies and procedures including Infection Control and Equipment Management policies. Provides support with quarterly physical inventory count as needed. Must maintain regular and predictable attendance. Continuing education credits (CEU’s) are required and expected to maintain professional credentialing and competence. Assists patients in determining the appropriate complex equipment by conducting a comprehensive evaluation. Establishes relationships with physicians and other health care providers to enhance NSM branding to increase sales for National Seating & Mobility. Maintains relationship with Referral Sources. Acts as a liaison between the company, the patient, and healthcare agencies. Travels throughout assigned territory to call on regular and prospective customers. Displays or demonstrates products using samples or brochures. Completes annual Compliance Training requirements and ATP Competency within suspense date. Professional behavior that seeks to steward the profession of Rehabilitation Supplier Technology. Attend NSM’s National Symposium and Sales Meeting. Work Environment: This position operates in several environments, including a professional office, repair shop, warehouse, healthcare clinics, schools, clients’ homes, long term care facilities, etc. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, printers, photocopiers, filing cabinets and fax machines . Daily travel is required and ATPs are expected to work within specific market territory. Physical Demands: The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. While performing the duties of this job, the employee must be able to lift 50 pounds. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk or hear. The employee is regularly required to sit; use hands repetitively to operate standard office equipment as tools. The employee is frequently required to reach with hands and arms, twist, bend, and kneel. Required Education, Experience & Competencies: Masters or Doctorate degree in Occupational or Physical Therapy National credentialing with AOTA or APTA and current resident state license in good standing 3+ years of experience in OT or PT practice. Complex Rehab Technology experience preferred; seating and positioning experience desired. Must possess valid State Driver’s License and have maintained a safe driving record. Knowledge of basic computer related skills such as use of mobile devices, internet, e-mail, and enterprise software. Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and manage multiple priorities. Proven leadership and training skills.
