Position Overview

Fathom Management is seeking a Senior Cloud Developer to support the FBI CJIS Division's Data Mesh architecture. This role will design, implement, and maintain secure, scalable cloud infrastructure supporting enterprise data management, data products, ETL pipelines, automation, data governance, and self-service analytics.

The Senior Cloud Developer will work closely with Product Owners, Product Managers, data domain teams, and technical stakeholders within a SAFe Agile environment. The role combines AWS cloud development, data engineering, DevOps, Infrastructure as Code, cloud security, monitoring, and Data Mesh implementation.

The primary work location is remote. Contractors must be available to report to the FBI CJIS facility in Clarksburg, WV for equipment pickup and in-person meetings as required.

Current Technical Architecture Experience

Candidates should have recent hands-on experience with:

• AWS cloud development and data engineering
• AWS S3, Redshift, Glue, Lake Formation, and Lambda
• Enterprise ETL pipelines and data infrastructure
• Data Mesh architecture and decentralized data management
• Infrastructure as Code using Ansible, Packer, and/or AWS CloudFormation
• CI/CD pipelines using Bamboo, Jenkins, or similar technologies
• Python, Shell, Java, or comparable scripting/programming languages
• Cloud monitoring and logging
• AWS CloudWatch and CloudTrail
• Splunk, Prometheus, and/or Grafana
• AWS security services and cloud security controls
• Data governance, metadata, lineage, access controls, and data privacy
• Data catalogs and data discoverability
• Jira and Confluence
• SAFe Agile, Scrum, and/or Kanban

Required Qualifications

• 7+ years of AWS cloud development experience, with a focus on data engineering and DevOps.
• Strong hands-on experience with AWS data services, including:
  • S3
  • Redshift
  • Glue
  • Lake Formation
  • Lambda
• Experience developing scalable ETL pipelines and cloud-based data infrastructure.
• Proficiency with Data Mesh architecture and decentralized data management principles.
• Strong understanding of data governance, including:
  • Data privacy
  • Access controls
  • Data lineage
  • Metadata management
  • Data governance tooling
• Advanced scripting/programming experience using Python, Shell, Java, or similar technologies.
• Experience with Infrastructure as Code tools such as Ansible, Packer, and AWS CloudFormation.
• Experience developing and maintaining CI/CD pipelines using Bamboo, Jenkins, or similar technologies.
• Strong experience with monitoring and logging tools such as AWS CloudWatch, CloudTrail, Splunk, Prometheus, and/or Grafana.
• Strong understanding of cloud security, including:

  • Multi-factor authentication
  • AWS Security Hub
• Experience working in a SAFe Agile environment, including Scrum, Kanban, Jira, and Confluence.

Education

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related technical field preferred.

Key Responsibilities

• Participate in SAFe Agile ceremonies, including Program Increment Planning, Sprint Planning, Daily Standups, Sprint Reviews, and Retrospectives.
• Collaborate with Product Owners, Product Managers, and data domain teams to refine and prioritize product backlogs.
• Design and deploy domain-specific data products.
• Develop and maintain scalable ETL pipelines using AWS services including S3, Redshift, Glue, Lake Formation, and Lambda.
• Implement and maintain Infrastructure as Code using Ansible, Packer, AWS CloudFormation, and related technologies.
• Build and maintain CI/CD pipelines using Bamboo, Jenkins, or similar tools.
• Monitor cloud and data infrastructure using CloudWatch, CloudTrail, Splunk, Prometheus, Grafana, and related technologies.
• Troubleshoot performance issues and anomalies across cloud and data infrastructure.
• Implement cloud security best practices, including network security, encryption, MFA, and AWS Security Hub integration.
• Maintain data catalogs supporting discoverability, lineage, and usage transparency.
• Support the operation, maintenance, and reliability of Data Mesh software.
• Help ensure high availability of Data Mesh infrastructure and services.
• Lead training initiatives for data stewards and users covering Data Mesh principles, governance, and self-service analytics.
• Document work in Jira and Confluence, including Epics, Features, and User Stories.
• Maintain detailed backlogs and provide transparent progress tracking.
• Support enforcement of data governance standards involving privacy, access controls, lineage, and metadata.
• Collaborate with cross-functional data domain teams and stakeholders to support enterprise data objectives.

What Makes Someone Successful

The successful candidate will combine strong AWS cloud development and data engineering skills with practical DevOps experience and a solid understanding of Data Mesh architecture. This individual should be comfortable working across cloud infrastructure, ETL pipelines, Infrastructure as Code, CI/CD, monitoring, security, and data governance while collaborating with multiple data domain teams in a SAFe Agile environment.

Strong candidates will also be able to communicate technical concepts clearly and support the organizational adoption of Data Mesh principles through documentation, collaboration, and training.

Work Environment

• Primarily remote within the United States.
• Occasional onsite requirements at the FBI CJIS facility in Clarksburg, WV for equipment pickup and in-person meetings.
• Core working hours are 9:00 AM–4:00 PM Eastern Time.
• Potential weekend or non-business-hours maintenance and on-call support.
• On-call response requirement of within one hour when assigned.
