Cloud Engineer | Remote | 4-month contract Vervint is looking for a Cloud Engineer for our backend platform team. This is a hands-on, contract engineering role: you'll build and extend the cloud services powering device connectivity — device state, telemetry, real-time status, notifications, history, and the APIs that support them — working in Go and AWS alongside senior engineers who own the architecture. The platform is built on Go and AWS, with an event-driven architecture connecting devices to our mobile app. Conventions are strong and already established, and senior engineers own the architecture and review your work. We're looking for someone who writes clear, conventional, tested code, asks good questions early, and takes well-scoped work to completion without needing daily oversight. What You'll Do: Build and extend the services and endpoints behind connected-device features — device state, telemetry, real-time status, notifications, and history — to an agreed design. Write the Go code that moves device telemetry through the event pipeline and out to the APIs the app consumes. Implement API handlers against agreed request/error contracts, including auth, pagination, and locale handling. Define the tables, streams, and storage your work needs in CDK, following the existing stack, naming, and IAM conventions rather than inventing new ones. Write unit and integration tests for the code you ship, and keep types, lint, and the test suite green before opening a pull request. Help debug and resolve issues along the device data path, using logs, metrics, and traces to find root cause rather than guessing. Support day-to-day operations as devices ship — OTA rollouts, field diagnostics, and engineering-facing support questions. Participate in code review in both directions, take architectural direction from senior engineers, and flag gaps or ambiguous requirements early. What You'll Bring: 3+ years building backend services in the cloud, with hands-on Go — or strong experience in another statically typed language and willingness to write Go. Hands-on AWS experience with services such as Lambda, ECS/Fargate, API Gateway, DynamoDB, Kinesis, and S3. Working knowledge of DynamoDB key design and query patterns, and awareness of what a poor access pattern costs at scale. Experience building and consuming HTTP APIs, including error handling, pagination, and authentication. Some exposure to queues or streams and the fundamentals that come with them — retries, duplicates, and ordering. Exposure to infrastructure as code — CDK, CloudFormation, or Terraform — and a basic grasp of IAM and secrets handling. Experience writing unit tests for your own code, not treating testing as someone else's job. Clear written communication, a habit of surfacing blockers early, and the curiosity and adaptability to grow with the team. Preferred Qualifications: Connected-device or IoT backend experience: MQTT, device state, provisioning, or OTA. Go modules and monorepo workflows, or containerized services on ECS/Fargate. Real-time delivery to mobile clients — WebSocket APIs, reconnects, and fan-out. OpenSearch, push notifications (APNs/FCM), or observability tooling such as Prometheus, Loki, and OpenTelemetry. Comfort using AI-assisted development tools to move faster without shipping code you can't explain.
