Job Title: Cloud Engineer II Job Type: Hybrid Contract term: 6 months to Direct hire Summary of Functions: The Cloud Engineer II is a mid-level technical professional responsible for designing, implementing, maintaining, and supporting enterprise cloud and hybrid infrastructure environments. This position provides hands-on cloud engineering expertise across compute, networking, storage, identity integration, security, automation, and platform services. The Cloud Engineer II independently executes cloud infrastructure initiatives, supports cloud adoption and modernization efforts, resolves complex technical issues, and partners with architecture, security, systems, network, and application teams to deliver secure, reliable, and scalable cloud services. Management Scope: N/A Duties and Responsibilities: % of Time Essential Non-essential 1. Execution Excellence · Provides operational engineering support for enterprise cloud environments by configuring, deploying, monitoring, maintaining, and troubleshooting cloud infrastructure services, including compute resources, storage platforms, networking components, identity integrations, security controls, and platform services. Performs cloud administration activities, supports production workloads, manages infrastructure changes, resolves technical issues, maintains documentation, and ensures cloud services meet established availability, performance, security, and operational requirements. 30 E 2. Planning and Solutioning · Participates in the planning, design, testing, and implementation of cloud solutions that support business requirements and enterprise technology strategies. Supports cloud migrations, workload deployments, infrastructure modernization initiatives, hybrid cloud integrations, automation efforts, and platform improvements. Evaluates technical options, assists with solution development, performs testing and validation, and provides 30 E recommendations to improve scalability, reliability, security, and operational efficiency. 3. Quality and Continuous Improvement · Maintains cloud engineering standards, technical documentation, configuration records, and operational procedures while following security requirements, governance practices, and industry best practices. Supports automation, Infrastructure-as-Code, monitoring, observability, cloud governance, and cost optimization initiatives. Participates in root cause analysis, performance improvements, security enhancements, and process improvements that increase cloud reliability and operational maturity. 20 E 4. Cross-Functional Collaboration · Collaborates with Cloud Architects, Senior Cloud Engineers, Systems Engineers, Network Engineers, Cybersecurity, IAM, Application Development, Database, Service Desk, vendors, and business stakeholders to implement, support, and improve cloud solutions. Participates in technical planning sessions, project activities, troubleshooting efforts, and knowledge-sharing activities while maintaining effective working relationships across technology teams. 20 E * The Code depends on the Department where the position is located and/or funded in accordance with 86-1 of Dallas County Code. Minimum Qualifications: Education, Experience and Training: Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Cloud Computing, Systems Engineering, or a related field; or an Associate degree with four (4) years of relevant cloud engineering, systems administration, or infrastructure support experience; or an equivalent combination of education, technical training, certifications, and related experience. Four (4) to six (6) years of experience supporting enterprise infrastructure environments with hands-on experience in cloud platforms, systems administration, virtualization, networking, automation, or related technologies is required. Experience supporting Microsoft Azure, Amazon Web Services (AWS), hybrid cloud environments, infrastructure-as-code, cloud security, and enterprise workload deployments is preferred. Special Requirements/Knowledge, Skills & Abilities: Knowledge of enterprise cloud engineering concepts and operations; public cloud platforms including Microsoft Azure and/or AWS; cloud compute, networking, storage, database, and platform services; hybrid cloud architectures; identity and access management integration; cloud security principles; Infrastructure-as-Code concepts; scripting and automation; DevOps practices; CI/CD concepts; containerization technologies; monitoring and observability solutions; cloud governance; cost management and optimization practices; disaster recovery concepts; IT service management processes; and the integration of cloud services with enterprise systems, applications, networks, and cybersecurity controls. Ability to implement, configure, administer, troubleshoot, and optimize cloud infrastructure solutions; deploy and maintain cloud resources; automate operational tasks; analyze and resolve technical issues; follow architecture, security, and governance standards; develop and maintain technical documentation; evaluate cloud technologies; collaborate effectively with engineering teams and stakeholders; manage multiple priorities; and apply strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills. Preferred certifications include Microsoft Certified: Azure Administrator Associate, Microsoft Certified: Azure Developer Associate, Microsoft Certified: Azure Fundamentals, AWS Certified Solutions Architect – Associate, AWS Certified SysOps Administrator, AWS Certified Developer Associate, HashiCorp Terraform Associate, Certified Kubernetes Administrator (CKA), CompTIA Cloud+, VMware Certified Professional (VCP), or equivalent cloud engineering certifications. Physical/Environmental Requirements: Work is primarily performed in an office environment with occasional work in data centers or technical facilities. The position requires the ability to sit, stand, walk, bend, reach, and occasionally lift equipment weighing up to 40 pounds. The role may require participation in after-hours maintenance activities, on-call support rotations, cloud implementation activities, disaster recovery exercises, and occasional travel between organizational facilities.
