Why join Intercity Technology: Office of the CTO

Intercity has been helping businesses Do More with technology for over 40 years. The Office of the CTO sets the direction for our services, and cloud is one of the biggest parts of the picture. We’re an Investors in People Gold employer, and we back our people with learning and development opportunities and a genuine path to grow.

The role:

As our Cloud and Platforms Service Tower Lead, you’ll be responsible for the strategy, growth, commercial success and lifecycle management of our Cloud and Platforms portfolio. That covers Microsoft Azure, Private Cloud, Hybrid Cloud, Backup and Recovery, Infrastructure Services, Managed Cloud, Platform Services and Cloud Transformation.

Working closely with our architects, Platforms and Engineering teams and Microsoft Alliances, you’ll shape the future direction of our cloud services, keeping them scalable, differentiated, commercially successful and aligned to our Microsoft-first strategy. You’ll be accountable for turning cloud capability into repeatable, productised managed services that help customers modernise, optimise, secure and scale their technology platforms.

Key Responsibilities

Strategy
  • Define and own the Cloud and Platforms service strategy and roadmap

  • Drive the evolution of our Azure, Private Cloud and Hybrid Cloud offerings, in line with our Microsoft-first strategy

  • Own the full service lifecycle, from concept through to retirement

  • Watch market trends, customer needs and competitors to find opportunities for growth and differentiation

Growth and productisation
  • Develop scalable, repeatable and commercially attractive cloud managed services

  • Simplify and standardise offerings to improve customer experience and operational efficiency

  • Create compelling service packages, propositions and commercial models

  • Move us from bespoke solutions to productised cloud services, and launch new cloud, platform and managed infrastructure services

Azure and managed cloud
  • Own the strategic direction and commercial performance of the portfolio

  • Drive Azure consumption growth across our customer base

  • Develop services that support cloud migration, optimisation, management and governance

  • Work with engineering to increase automation, efficiency and service maturity

  • Keep our cloud offerings aligned to Microsoft’s platform strategy and innovation roadmap

Commercial performance
  • Own portfolio revenue, profitability and growth targets

  • Build business cases for investment, service evolution and new propositions

  • Work with Sales, Marketing and Customer Success to accelerate adoption and find cross-sell, upsell and expansion opportunities in existing customers

  • Make sure pricing and service structures support sustainable growth and strong margins

Customers and leadership
  • Be the voice of the customer in the Cloud and Platforms tower, using feedback, service performance data and market insight to shape services

  • Make sure our cloud services solve genuine business challenges and deliver measurable outcomes, driving adoption, retention and satisfaction

  • Work closely with our architects so service strategy lines up with technical standards and architecture

  • Partner with Platforms and Engineering on automation, efficiency and scalability, and with Alliances and Technology to maximise Microsoft incentives, funding and cloud growth

  • Support Sales, Customer Success and Marketing with propositions, customer engagements and go-to-market activity

Key Experience

  • Experience owning, managing or developing cloud managed services in an MSP, technology services provider, cloud provider or consultancy

  • A strong understanding of cloud services, infrastructure platforms and managed service models

  • Experience building service roadmaps and product strategies, and managing service portfolios and productisation

  • Commercial and financial awareness, including pricing, profitability and cost-to-serve

  • Experience working closely with sales and customer success teams to drive service growth

  • Strong stakeholder management and communication skills

  • A degree in IT, computer science, engineering or business, or equivalent industry experience

It’s a bonus if you have:

  • A strong understanding of Azure, Azure Arc, hybrid and private cloud, backup and disaster recovery, IaaS and PaaS

  • FinOps and cloud cost optimisation

  • Experience managing cloud migration and transformation services

  • Knowledge of automation, Infrastructure as Code and platform operations

  • Experience in a Microsoft-focused MSP environment

Certifications

None of these are essential, but any of them will help: Azure Solutions Architect Expert, Azure Administrator Associate, Azure Network Engineer Associate, FinOps Certified Practitioner, ITIL Foundation or Managing Professional, TOGAF Foundation or Practitioner, or a product management qualification (Pragmatic Institute, AIPMM or equivalent).

Key Skills and Behaviours

  • A commercial mindset: you think of cloud services as products rather than projects, and you understand revenue growth, margin, consumption models and recurring services

  • Customer focus: you understand customers’ transformation challenges and cloud adoption journeys, and put outcomes first

  • Strategic thinking: you balance long-term platform strategy with short-term commercial goals, and spot market shifts early

  • Collaboration and influence: you build credibility across technical, operational and commercial teams, and talk to technical and non-technical audiences alike

  • Innovation: you champion cloud transformation, automation and modernisation, and push for simplification, standardisation and operational excellence

What we offer

  • 33 days holiday (including bank holidays), increasing by one day for each full year with us, up to five additional days

  • Holiday buy scheme

  • All-company bonus scheme

  • Company pension

  • Death in service cover
