Co-founder - Operations and Sales

Company Description

Iyal is a deep tech startup at the interface between AI and educational technology. Our technology converts naturally hand-written storkes (i.e. ink on a paper surface) to computable data. Our flagship product, AutoAssess, reduces assessment times of hand-written responses by up to 95 percent, saving educators 8-10 hours a week on manual assessment.

With pilots conducted accross leading institutes globally, and a supplier partnership with a leading global OEM manufacturer, we are launching AutoAssess and seek to gain our first institutional partners. We are looking for builders who can help us execute.

In parallel, we're also building a Foundational AI Model for hand-written stroke data - and have been recently awarded a grant for this. This will be the technlogical basis of the company's products.

Role Description

This is a genuine co-founder role: you'd build and run the commercial side of the company with me. Based in Petaling Jaya, with flexibility to work from home. You would:

• Build partnerships with tuition centres, private schools and universities across Southeast Asia and beyond (India, UK, Europe)
• Shape and execute our go-to-market strategy from zero
• Take an active part in product decisions
• Design a sustainable data-collection strategy. This has interesting parallels with robotics startups, so experience there is very welcome.
• Run day-to-day operations alongside me

About the founder

I'm Arvin, a theoretical physicist by training. I'm an alumni of institutes such as Imperial, Harvard, and IIT Madras, studying physics and machine learning. These many years in academia directly contribute to shaping of the product in the areas of learning, teaching, and assessment. I'm currently advised by a founder who runs a successful educational technology resale business.

What we're looking for

• Real enthusiasm for building frontier technology at the intersection of AI and education
• A STEM degree is a strong plus, since our first market is STEM education
• Experience with founders or early-stage startups strongly preferred
• Familiarity with how universities and academics work is a bonus
• Willingness to travel and work across time zones. Our customers are global from day one.
• Bonus: you're a Malaysian returnee who studied or worked abroad and wants to build something meaningful from Malaysia

What you get

Meaningful founder equity subject to a standard vesting schedule. No salary until our seed round closes; after that you join the payroll, on compensation agreed in writing before you start. If you want to build the operating engine of a deep-tech education company, I'd love to hear from you.
