We’re looking for a Senior COBOL Developer to join our ever-evolving Mainframe Engineering & Payment Processing Technology Team and help shape the future of global commerce. In this role, you will play a critical part in ensuring the stability, reliability, and performance of the systems that power millions of payment transactions every day. Your expertise will help protect data integrity, accelerate business outcomes, and maintain the resilient payment infrastructure our clients depend on. Working alongside talented technical and business teams, you’ll have the opportunity to modernize and enhance mission-critical applications, influence operational excellence, and directly support Global Payments’ mission of delivering secure, innovative, and seamless payment experiences around the world.

What you'll own

• Drive the reliability and performance of mission-critical payment systems by delivering high-quality COBOL solutions that support transaction processing, business continuity, and exceptional client outcomes.
• Lead the resolution of complex production challenges by identifying root causes, implementing sustainable fixes, and minimizing operational risk across a 24x7 payment environment.
• Strengthen platform stability and data integrity through effective batch processing, recovery strategies, and controlled software implementations that ensure accurate and dependable business operations.
• Influence continuous improvement across mainframe applications and processes by identifying opportunities to optimize performance, reduce recurring issues, and enhance operational efficiency.
• Champion delivery excellence and technical quality by driving thorough testing, knowledge sharing, and governance practices that improve system resilience and support long-term business growth.

What you'll bring

• 6+ years of experience developing, maintaining, and supporting COBOL applications within complex mainframe environments.
• Deep expertise in COBOL, Job Control Language (JCL), batch processing, debugging, and production incident troubleshooting with the ability to diagnose and resolve complex system issues.
• Strong knowledge of IBM mainframe technologies including Virtual Storage Access Method (VSAM), DB2 databases, Time Sharing Option/Interactive System Productivity Facility (TSO/ISPF), System Display and Search Facility (SDSF), CA-7 workload automation, and Endevor version control.
• Proven ability to take ownership of critical incidents, prioritize effectively under pressure, and deliver reliable outcomes while protecting business operations and customer experience.
• Excellent communication and collaboration skills with a demonstrated ability to partner across technical and business teams, translate complex issues, and drive successful delivery.

It's a bonus if you have

• Experience supporting credit card processing, payments, banking, or broader financial services platforms.
• Hands-on experience with Customer Information Control System (CICS) application development and production support.
• A continuous learning mindset with a track record of identifying process improvements, modernizing legacy environments, and sharing expertise with peers.
