About Ausgrid – we’re wired for good
We’re the largest distributor of electricity on Australia’s east coast, which means over two million homes and businesses rely on our good work. We’re here at the heart of the energy transition, and we’re driven by a powerful purpose to make electricity accessible for all.
It’s an exciting new chapter for our company with each day bringing a renewed energy to how we deliver, store and use electricity. As we continue to grow, we’re in search of exceptional talent to help us achieve our goals.
Everyone’s job is important here. Our customers come from all walks of life, and so do we. We’re committed to fostering a diverse, respectful, and inclusive workplace, and encourage applications from all backgrounds.
See yourself working here
Australia’s energy transition depends on new electrical infrastructure, and on getting the contracts behind it right. Step into a senior commercial role where you’ll shape how large, complex infrastructure projects are structured, negotiated and delivered, from Battery Energy Storage Solutions (BESS), EV charging networks to major grid connections.
Reporting to the Senior Manager Commercial Projects, you’ll lead commercial contracting strategy across a portfolio delivered under a range of models, including build, own and maintain (BOM), engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) and balance of plant (BoP) agreements. You’ll partner with senior leaders, Legal, Business Development, Program Directors and customers to negotiate agreements that balance commercial value, risk and long-term outcomes.
This is also a chance to build something. As our infrastructure business grows, you’ll set its commercial foundations: leading contract negotiations, transitioning existing agreements, establishing frameworks, templates and governance, and defining standard risk positions. We want someone who will challenge the status quo, question how things have always been done, and lift commercial capability across the group by coaching and guiding project and business development teams.
This is a highly visible and externally facing role requiring strong commercial judgement. You’ll be trusted to navigate complex negotiations, challenge commercial positions, identify and manage contractual risk, and confidently represent the business in discussions with customers and senior stakeholders.
What you bring to the role
Our hiring decisions are not only based on your experience and skills, but your passion, attitude, and alignment to our core values.
- Minimum of 7 years of experience in commercial or contract management roles on major infrastructure or energy projects
- Tertiary qualifications in business, law, contract management or finance.
- Experience and knowledge of commercial projects in the electricity distribution, battery energy storage systems, electric vehicle charging infrastructure, telecommunications or infrastructure sectors preferred.
- A track record of leading negotiations on high-value, complex contracts, including EPC, BoP and build, own and maintain agreements.
- Strong commercial decision-making, governance, and approval process management skills
- Deep understanding of risk allocation in infrastructure contracts, including liability caps, liquidated damaged, warranties and performance guarantees.
- Confidence to challenge the status quo, with experience improving commercial processes, templates or capability across a team or organisation.
- Strong organisation, prioritisation, and time management skills to manage multiple commercial projects.
- Strong communication and relationship management skills, including the ability to negotiate outcomes and influence internal and external stakeholders at a senior level.
- Strong attention to detail, initiative and discretion when handling sensitive commercial matters.
