About the company
Our client is a legal services company.
The role
Raydar is recruiting for this role on behalf of our client. Take ownership of commercial contracting as an early attorney hire, handling a broad mix of agreements and advising business leaders on pragmatic negotiating choices. The role also involves helping define how the practice runs and grows over time.
What you'll do
- Prepare, revise and negotiate a variety of business contracts, including software, confidentiality, data protection and supplier agreements, which will fill most of your week.
- Give clear, practical guidance to company founders and internal teams by chat and phone, weighing each client's maturity and appetite for risk.
- Serve as the trusted point of contact for clients, meeting agreed response times and earning their confidence.
- Capture your negotiating approach and preferred fallback positions as reusable guides and AI-supported processes.
- Help establish the practice, train incoming attorneys and offer input on the firm's technology tools.
What we're looking for
- 5 to 8 years of commercial contracting experience, including a meaningful period in-house at a smaller, fast-moving company.
- Hands-on work across several contract categories, including software, partnership and channel arrangements.
- Solid command of customary positions on risk allocation, intellectual property, data handling and contract exit terms in technology deals.
- Sound commercial judgment and the ability to explain in everyday language which points matter and why.
- A direct, approachable manner that delivers prioritized advice and stays composed when the other side pushes back.
- Regular use of AI tools in legal work, with a willingness to turn your expertise into repeatable workflows.
- A law degree and current good standing with a US state bar.
Bonus points
- Prior law firm experience before moving in-house.
- Exposure to related areas such as employment, privacy or corporate matters.
- Admission in California or New York.
