ABOUT US: Pahara Institute at Lone Rock is a nonprofit organization dedicated to strengthening the education sector by supporting the leaders who shape it. Nestled in the mountains of Bailey, Colorado, our Lone Rock campus is a retreat center where education leaders gather to reflect, connect, and recharge. Our team blends hospitality professionals on campus with a remote program team that supports our program's operations.

TYPE OF POSITION AND SCHEDULE: This is a temporary, part-time position (up to 20 hours per week) expected to last approximately six months, with the possibility of extension based on organizational needs. Employment with Pahara Institute is at will, and this posting does not create a contract for any specific length of employment.

This is a remote position open to candidates in any U.S. state. All scheduled hours must fall within Eastern Time business hours, 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. ET, Monday through Friday.

THE ROLE: The Communications Specialist supports the day-to-day execution of Pahara's communications, primarily producing external communications, including newsletters and web and social media content. Reporting to the Vice President, Communications & Marketing, this role helps ensure Pahara's messaging is consistent, timely, and engaging across channels. The position requires strong writing skills, attention to detail, and the ability to produce polished content that reflects Pahara's mission, values, and brand identity.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Area 1: Newsletter Production

  • Assist in drafting, formatting, and distributing Pahara's email newsletters on an established schedule
  • Gather content, stories, and updates from across the organization and Fellow community for inclusion
  • Coordinate with data team to maintain email lists to ensure accurate delivery
  • Ensure all newsletter content aligns with Pahara's brand guidelines and voice

Area 2: Social Media Content

  • Assist in drafting and scheduling social media posts across Pahara's platforms in line with the organization's content calendar and the assigned total work schedule
  • Adapt content for platform-specific formats and audiences
  • Create or source accompanying graphics and images consistent with brand guidelines

Area 3: Internal Communications Support

  • Produce occasional long-lead materials for internal communications, including content for all-staff meetings
  • Format and proofread internal documents and updates as needed
  • Support consistent, clear information sharing across the organization

Area 4: General Communications Support

  • Provide support updating content on Pahara's website
  • Maintain organized files of communications assets, templates, and content
  • Proofread and copyedit materials produced by other team members as requested

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • No direct supervisory responsibilities
  • Coordinates with vendors and service providers on content and design deliverables as needed

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES

  • Bachelor's degree in communications, marketing, journalism, or related field preferred
  • 2+ years of experience in communications, content production, or related fields
  • Experience in education, nonprofit, or mission-driven environments preferred
  • Strong writing, editing, and proofreading skills
  • Excellent attention to detail and follow-through
  • Working knowledge of social media platforms and best practices
  • Familiarity with email marketing tools (e.g., Campaign Monitor, Salesforce, Constant Contact) and content scheduling tools
  • Experience with website design and content maintenance (e.g., Wix)
  • Basic graphic design skills (e.g., Canva) preferred
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines
  • Flexibility and adaptability to changing circumstances
  • Strong interpersonal skills and ability to work with diverse stakeholders
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite, Google Workspace, and content management systems
  • Alignment with Pahara's core values

ADDITIONAL DETAILS

  • Reporting Relationships: The Communications Assistant reports to the Vice President, Communications & Marketing.
  • Work Environment: We are a virtual organization by design so that our team can work where they have built their lives. This position is fully remote with no travel requirement.
  • Compensation: This position is compensated at an hourly rate commensurate with experience. This role is not eligible for benefits. The range for this role is between $30-35 per hour
