Every day, millions of Australians connect, work, stream, and stay in touch on the Optus network. When it works seamlessly, it’s easy to take for granted. But behind it is a team making thousands of decisions every day - decisions that keep people, businesses and communities connected.
Right now, Optus is focused on getting the fundamentals right - simplifying how we work, lifting standards, and building a more reliable, resilient experience for our customers.
It’s not about surface-level change. It’s about how we make decisions, how we work together, and how we deliver.
As a Communications Advisor, this role supports the delivery of clear, practical and engaging communications for Optus Retail and Contact Centre frontline teams. Working across a pooled team model, the role translates operational and business priorities into timely, audience-focused communications across written, visual and video channels. It leverages strong stakeholder engagement and sound judgement to simplify complex information, identify the right audience and select the most effective communication approach. The role also supports content creation, publishing, campaign delivery and frontline engagement initiatives, flexing across teams to meet changing business needs, support peak periods and incidents, and help ensure frontline teams remain informed, aligned and equipped to deliver exceptional customer outcomes.
What You’ll Do
- Draft and deliver frontline communications, including updates, leader messages, MyHub posts, quick guides, FAQs and campaign materials.
- Translate complex operational, technical and business information into clear, actionable content for different audiences and channels.
- Support Retail and Contact Centre priorities through shared planning, agreed sequencing and coordinated delivery of major initiatives such as Your Voice.
- Create and adapt visual content using Canva or equivalent tools, and produce short-form video using Shootsa or similar platforms.
- Develop reusable templates and production approaches that improve quality, speed, consistency and team capability.
- Work with stakeholders to clarify communication needs, recommend appropriate channels, formats and timing, and challenge duplication or unnecessary complexity.
- Review content for accuracy, clarity, accessibility, brand alignment and tone of voice, escalating operational, reputational or audience risks.
- Publish, maintain and refresh content across MyHub and other relevant channels, keeping accurate records of approvals, publishing dates and communication rhythms.
- Monitor frontline feedback and questions, identify themes and gaps, and contribute to measuring and improving communication effectiveness.
- Work flexibly across Consumer, COO, Retail and Contact Centres, supporting leaders with research, reporting and coordination during peaks, incidents and major launches.
What You’ll Bring
- Strong written communication skills, with the ability to simplify complex information into clear, practical and actionable messages for frontline audiences.
- Demonstrated ability to assess audience needs and apply sound judgement to select the most effective communication channel, format and delivery approach.
- Experience creating engaging visual and video content using tools such as Canva, Shootsa or similar digital content platforms.
- Proven stakeholder management and influencing skills, with the ability to build relationships, challenge constructively and collaborate across multiple business functions.
- Strong planning, coordination and quality assurance capabilities, with experience managing competing priorities, maintaining content accuracy and using frontline insights to drive continuous improvement.
The good stuff
- Competitive remuneration and colleague discounts. Make life easier (and more affordable) with $80 monthly credit and 25% off Optus products and outstanding shopping discounts with our retail partners.
- Flexible working arrangements with opportunities to work three days in the office, two days remote or home.
- Vibrant and collaborative office campus that includes cafes, convenience store, chill out zones, GP, post office, gym, and on-site childcare centre.
- Competitive leave policies, including additional 'Connected’ days to focus on culture, family, health, community, or whatever’s important to you.
- We support growing families with inclusive, carer-neutral paid Parental Leave of up to 16 weeks.
- Build meaningful connections through colleague-led networks and diversity initiatives including Culture Connect, Elevate Women, Disability Network, and Express Yourself (LGBTQIA+).
- Put your wellbeing first with free access to counselling and support services, 24/7 — in-person, by phone, SMS, or video.
- Free Optus bus from Macquarie University Metro Station (every 6-8 minutes); morning and afternoon. Join us for an outstanding career opportunity!
