The Communications Associate will serve dual roles of supporting daily social media content development and media relations for the Office of Communications (OC) to extend the reach and thought leadership of AAAS. As part of the external affairs track of the team, the Communications Associate will also support digital storytelling campaigns, issues management, and analytics.

What You’ll Do

· Support proactive and reactive media relations, including drafting and distributing press materials

· Build media lists, monitor the media inbox, and correspond with traditional and emerging press

· Draft, revise and schedule social media content and support community management across platforms such as LinkedIn, Instagram, Facebook, Bluesky and X using a social media scheduling tool

· Support earned and paid digital storytelling campaigns

· Conduct ongoing media and social media listening and support issues management activities

· Work closely with OC external affairs track on data collection and analytics reporting

· Support the Digital Communications Manager with writing and other projects as time allows

· Handle research and administrative duties for the Office of Communications as needed

Minimum Qualifications

· Bachelor's degree

· 2-3 years of experience conducting media relations and crafting social media content

· Experience using monitoring platforms and social media management tools preferred

· Program management experience preferred

· Interest in public affairs preferred

· Collaborative spirit who enjoys working with colleagues toward a unified vision

The anticipated initial rate of compensation for this position is $52,000 - $57,000 per year. AAAS currently provides the following benefits for this position: paid vacation leave, paid sick leave, paid

holidays, health insurance, flexible spending account, dental insurance, life insurance, vision insurance, retirement benefits, short- and long-term disability, each subject to the terms of the applicable program. Additional benefits may apply.

Any actual offer of employment, reflecting the total compensation package and benefits, will be made in the sole discretion of AAAS and will be based on a variety of factors, including years of experience, depth of experience, and other relevant factors. AAAS reserves the right to amend or modify its employment benefits and compensation structure at any time.
