Your Role in Supporting Our Members:
The Banking Operations team is looking for a motivated and creative Internship Student to help strengthen how we communicate operational information to branch and other member-facing teams.
This role will support the development of a more strategic, consistent and streamlined approach to Banking Operations communications. Working with Banking Operations leaders and subject matter experts, you will help assess current communication practices and develop the strategy, tools, templates, standards and resources that support effective operational communications.
The focus of this role is on helping Banking Operations build a sustainable communications approach that makes operational information easier for employees who serve our members to find, understand and act on.
This is an excellent opportunity for a student or ideally, a recent graduate interested in communications, business, change management, employee communications or financial services to gain hands-on experience developing a communications strategy and the practical tools needed to support it.
What You’ll Do
- Support the development and implementation of a communications strategy for Banking Operations, focused on employees who serve our members.
- Review current communication practices and identify opportunities to make Banking Operations communications clearer, more consistent, easier to navigate and more effective.
- Develop reusable communication templates, tools, standards, guides and resources to support common Banking Operations communication needs.
- Help establish consistent approaches for the format, structure, timing, audience and key messaging of operational communications.
- Support the development of guidance to help determine what needs to be communicated, to whom, when and through which channel.
- Work with Banking Operations leaders and subject matter experts to understand operational communication needs and translate them into practical communication approaches, tools and resources.
- Help organize and streamline how information is communicated across projects, process changes, new initiatives and other operational updates.
- Identify opportunities to simplify and improve communication processes and make information easier for member-facing employees to access and use.
- Gather feedback from stakeholders and employees to identify communication gaps and opportunities for improvement.
- Help explore ways to measure the effectiveness of Banking Operations communications and support continuous improvement.
- Support other Banking Operations initiatives and projects as needed.
What You Bring
- Currently enrolled in, or recently graduated from, a post-secondary program in Communications, Business Administration, Marketing, Public Relations, English, Digital Communications, Change Management, or a related field.
- Strong written communication and editing skills, with an ability to turn complex information into clear and easy-to-understand content.
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
- Ability to work with different stakeholders, gather information and turn that information into practical tools, recommendations and resources.
- An interest in communications strategy, employee experience and process improvement.
- Comfortable working independently and managing multiple priorities.
- Proficiency with Microsoft 365 applications such as Word, PowerPoint, Excel, Teams and SharePoint.
- Curiosity and an interest in understanding how effective communications can support employees who serve our members and improve business operations.
Nice to Have
- Previous co-op, internship, volunteer or project experience involving internal communications, corporate communications, change communications or business operations.
- Experience creating communication templates, guides, presentations, toolkits or other reusable resources.
- Exposure to financial services, retail banking, credit unions or another customer/member-facing environment.
- Experience with SharePoint, Canva, Microsoft Forms, Power Automate or other communications/productivity tools.
- An interest in process improvement and finding simpler, more effective ways of working.
What Success Could Look Like
By the end of the placement, the successful candidate will have helped Banking Operations establish a more consistent and sustainable approach to communicating with employees who serve our members.
