Communications Specialist - Hybrid

Job Summary (Communications Specialist – AZDOHS Border Coordination Office, Phoenix, AZ)

1. External Communications & Content Creation
- Draft, edit, and publish agency publications, newsletters, press releases, reports, and digital media.
- Maintain and update the agency’s website and digital platforms for timely and accurate information.
- Manage and schedule daily social media content; monitor engagement and create posts.
- Organize and distribute public information and agency announcements.
- Assist with planning and communication for agency events, including the annual Cyber Summit.

2. Internal Communications & Standardization
- Support internal communication strategies to keep staff informed and engaged.
- Help establish and maintain brand guidelines, communication templates, and editorial standards.
- Collaborate with internal teams to gather and distribute key information for internal communications.

3. Media Relations & Coordination
- Serve as a point of contact for media inquiries and public information requests.
- Draft media advisories, press kits, and background briefings.
- Monitor media coverage and prepare analytics reports on campaign reach and public engagement.

4. Program Support
- Develop targeted communications highlighting coordination programs and agency milestones.
- Assist leadership with special projects, briefing materials, and presentation development.

5. Required Qualifications & Skills
- Bachelor’s degree in Communications, Public Relations, Journalism, Marketing, or related field (or equivalent experience).
- At least 2 years of professional experience in communications, public relations, content creation, or digital media management (public sector experience preferred).
- Strong written and verbal communication, copywriting, and editing skills.
- Proficiency in social media tools, content management systems, and email marketing platforms.
- Experience with visual design tools (e.g., Canva, Adobe Creative Suite) and multimedia creation.
- Strong organizational and multitasking abilities with attention to detail.
- Familiarity with public affairs or government media relations is highly desirable.

6. Preferred Skills
- Experience in journalism and writing press releases.

The role involves both internal and external communications, event support, and collaboration with various teams to enhance public engagement and trust in the agency.
