About us
Best Life Harbor (“Anchored in Care”) is a newly licensed DC Home Support Agency. We help older adults live safely, independently, and with connection in their own homes, through companion and CNA care. This internship is offered in partnership with American University’s Department of Health Studies.

The role
You’ll own one community health project from planning to final presentation, working directly with older adults, senior centers, and aging-services organizations across DC. You’ll choose one project with us at the start of the semester:

  • Senior fall-prevention education: build and test home safety materials for older adults and families.
  • Community health workshops: plan and co-lead workshops at DC senior centers and measure their impact.
  • Ward-level senior resource map: map services for older adults across DC wards and identify gaps.
  • Social isolation and connection: assess loneliness among older adults and design a simple connection intervention.
What you’ll gain

  • Real ownership of a project with measurable outcomes
  • Hands-on experience in needs assessment, health communication, and program planning
  • Direct work with community partners across DC’s aging network
  • A portfolio-ready deliverable and a reference from the founder
Who we’re looking for

  • Undergraduate or graduate student in public health, health promotion, or a related field
  • Strong communicator who is comfortable working with older adults
  • Organized, self-directed, and curious about health equity in DC
  • Interested in earning academic credit (preferred, not required)
Schedule
Up to 8 to 10 hours per week, flexible around your classes. Hybrid: community sites in DC plus remote work.

Pay
$18.50 per hour, or a project-based fee set by project scope.

Training
All interns complete an orientation, client privacy (HIPAA) training, and a site safety briefing before any community work.
