Community Outreach Specialist
Catholic Cemeteries Association (CCA) | Sales Department
Location: Northeast Ohio. This is a hybrid role with daily local travel to CCA cemeteries, parishes and community partners.
Schedule: Full-time, salaried (exempt)
Pay: $75,000–$90,000 per year, based on experience
Reports to: Director of Sales and Business Development
About CCA
Since the mid-1800s, the Catholic Cemeteries Association has served Catholic families throughout the Diocese of Cleveland. We support families before, during and after the loss of a loved one, and we help them find a place to cherish memories for generations. Our values are Faith, Family, Trust, Compassion and Hope.
About the Role
As a Community Outreach Specialist, you’ll build the relationships that bring families to CCA. You’ll be our face in parishes, senior living communities, skilled nursing facilities, Rotary clubs and other community groups across Northeast Ohio. You’ll use your own judgment to decide which partners, events and venues will do the most to grow seminar attendance, referrals and the number of families we serve. You’ll also own the referral and seminar lead pipeline in our CRM, so that every lead is tracked, followed up and measured.
What You’ll Do
- Represent CCA at parish, community and pre-planning events, and before civic, religious and fraternal groups such as Rotary clubs, Knights of Columbus councils and chambers of commerce. This includes regular attendance, membership and speaking engagements.
- Create and carry out the outreach plan for your territories, and set and track monthly targets for new contacts, repeat visits and presentations.
- Plan and lead pre-planning seminars, lunch-and-learns and educational talks. Manage the master seminar schedule, and choose venues within budget.
- Promote CCA events such as memorial Masses, cemetery tours and open houses to referral partners and parishioners.
- Decide where pre-planning materials are placed with partners and keep them stocked. Work with Marketing on parish bulletin announcements and advertising.
- Keep complete records of contacts, visits, presentations and referrals in the CRM. Analyze each referral source, from first contact through to closed sale, to learn what works.
- Set and enforce CRM data standards and pipeline protocols for the sales team. Audit CRM use, report findings to leadership and recommend improvements.
What You’ll Bring
- 3–5 years of progressive experience in sales, community relations, business development or outreach. Experience in cemetery, funeral service, senior living, healthcare or faith-based settings is preferred.
- A bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Marketing, Sales Operations or a related field. In place of a degree, we’ll consider 5 or more years of progressive experience in sales, community relations, business development or outreach.
- Comfort starting conversations face to face and speaking to groups of any size.
- Compassion and discretion when discussing end-of-life planning with families, clergy, caregivers and healthcare professionals.
- Knowledge of Catholic burial traditions and parish life, or the ability to learn them quickly.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills, with a consultative, service-minded approach.
- Working knowledge of CRM systems, including the ability to administer them and pick up new tools quickly.
- The ability to stay organized and self-directed while managing several projects and timelines as part of a team.
- A valid driver’s license, reliable transportation and a clean driving record that meets our insurance carrier’s requirements.
Work Environment and Physical Demands
- The role is hybrid, with frequent local travel to parishes, senior living communities, skilled nursing facilities, community organizations and all regional CCA locations.
- The work involves extended periods at a computer as well as frequent standing, walking, bending, kneeling and stooping.
- You’ll sometimes work outdoors on cemetery grounds in a range of weather.
- You’ll need to lift or move up to 25 lbs.
- The work requires close vision, color vision and the ability to adjust focus.
Why Join CCA
- Medical, dental, vision and prescription drug coverage
- Health Savings Account (HSA)
- Employer-provided life insurance, plus AD&D, FMLA and an Employee Assistance Program
- A 403(b) and an organizational pension plan
- Generous paid vacation and corporate holidays
- Professional development and continuing education assistance
