Role and Responsibilities
This full-time position in the firm’s New York office offers an opportunity to work in a collaborative, dynamic environment, where the attorney will represent clients in various high-conflict and high-profile disputes, including complex commercial and business disputes, sexual abuse and other human rights cases, international arbitration, whistleblower cases, class actions, insolvency and restructuring matters. The team is sought after by clients for the most complex, high-profile cases.
The Attorney will be responsible for advising and representing clients in court or before other tribunals, conducting research and analysis of legal issues, interpreting laws, rulings, and regulations for survivors, and prosecuting claims. This role requires a dedicated advocate committed to securing justice for survivors and pursuing accountability in these sensitive and complex cases.
Responsibilities will include:
- Represent clients through all stages of a dispute, including from initial consultation though case initiation and to trial or arbitration.
- Efficiently manage caseloads, ensuring timely and thorough documentation and reporting.
- Provide strategic legal counsel to clients and collaborate with team members to develop case strategies and tactics.
- Prepare and review high quality work product, including researching and drafting pleadings, motions, and discovery materials.
- Participate in and manage all aspects of discovery, including issuing and responding to discovery requests, taking and defending depositions, attending and arguing discovery motions, and hearings, and trials as needed.
- Prepare and argue motions, ensuring strong legal arguments in support of clients’ claims. Conduct in-depth legal and factual research to support case strategy and ensure compliance with relevant laws.
- Additional duties as assigned.
Desired Skills and Qualifications
- The successful candidate should have the following qualifications:
- Proficient in researching and drafting pleadings, motions, and discovery materials
- Experience taking and defending depositions, ensuring thorough preparation for witness testimony and cross-examinations.
- Strong communication skills, with the ability to effectively engage clients, juries, opposing counsel, and judges, both verbally and in writing.
- Ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment, independently and simultaneously managing multiple cases, developing strategies, and overseeing all aspects of litigation.
- Advanced legal research skills, with expertise in applying case law and statutes to build strong case strategies.
Education and Experience
- Juris Doctor (JD) from an accredited law school.
- Active license to practice law in the relevant jurisdiction(s), in good standing with the state bar.
- Minimum of 3-5 years of experience in handling civil or criminal litigation.
