Operating in a fast-paced, dynamic, and rigorously examined environment, the Anti-Money Laundering (AML) Analyst conducts investigative research and regulatory compliance reviews pursuant to the Bank Secrecy Act (BSA) and USA PATRIOT Act. This role acts as a critical line of defense in detecting, investigating, and mitigating financial crimes including money laundering, terrorist financing, identity theft, and suspicious transaction patterns to safeguard the organization from legal, regulatory, operational, and reputational risk.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

Account Activity Investigations:

  • Perform Enhanced Due Diligence (EDD) on high-risk customers and load exception requests

  • Interview customers, relationship managers, and business partners as needed to establish the purpose of account activity

  • Apply sound professional judgment to resolve investigations within defined procedures, escalating complex matters to management as warranted

Data Analysis & Transaction Monitoring:

  • Execute queries and analyze complex transaction records against baseline customer profiles

  • Synthesize multi-source data to identify high-risk transactional, geographic, customer type, and product-based attributes

Regulatory Reporting & Filings:

  • Research, draft, and file well-written, narrative-driven Suspicious Activity Reports (SARs) and Currency Transaction Reports (CTRs) in full alignment with BSA and AML standards

  • Collect supporting documentation and prepare recommendations for SAR filings or bank referrals for AML Leadership review.

Cross-Functional Collaboration:

  • Partner closely with internal AML and Fraud teams to assess card activity risks, track evolving fraud trends, and minimize loss exposure

  • Build working relationships with internal stakeholders and external banking partners to evaluate compliance risk

Continuous Improvement & Operational Excellence:

  • Identify process gaps and recommend modifications to internal workflows and monitoring rules

  • Maintain strict adherence to documentation standards and thrive in a metric-driven, production-based environment

Qualifications

Education & Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree preferred; 1+ years of direct BSA/AML investigative or transaction monitoring experience preferred

  • A degree in an area emphasizing intensive research, technical writing, and data analysis will be considered in lieu of direct experience

Certifications:

  • Certified Anti-Money Laundering Specialist (CAMS) or Certified Fraud Examiner (CFE) certification is preferred

Technical Skills:

  • Intermediate proficiency in Microsoft Excel is required

  • Hands-on experience with financial core processing systems and specialized AML monitoring platforms (such as Actimize) is strongly preferred

Core Competencies:

  • Strong analytical and critical-thinking skills, with the ability to solve problems of moderate scope and identify high-risk anomalies

  • High-level written communication skills, particularly in authoring clear, concise investigative narratives

  • Ability to work independently with minimal oversight on routine workflows while remaining adaptable to shifting priorities and tight regulatory deadlines

  • Discretion and integrity to handle sensitive financial information under the highest degree of confidentiality

Additional Requirements

  • Eligible candidates may be subject to pre-employment background screening, including drug, criminal history, and credit checks, in accordance with applicable local, state, and federal laws
