Computer Vision Engineer | Junior to Lead positions available | Hybrid/ Remote
British Sign Language (BSL) | Machine Learning | Computer Vision
About the Opportunity
An innovative technology business is developing AI-powered solutions to improve communication and accessibility for the deaf community through British Sign Language (BSL).
Using Computer Vision and Machine Learning, the business is building technology capable of recognising and interpreting sign language from visual data.
They are looking for a Senior Computer Vision Engineer to take ownership of model development, helping turn complex research into practical, working technology.
BSL proficiency is essential for this position. Ideally, British Sign Language will be your first language, or you will have fluency and a deep understanding of its grammar, structure and nuances.
The Role
You will lead the development and optimisation of Computer Vision and Machine Learning models focused on sign language recognition.
Responsibilities include:
- Developing and optimising Computer Vision and Deep Learning models for BSL recognition.
- Building systems that recognise hand shapes, gestures, movement, facial expressions and body positioning.
- Working with video data and visual datasets to improve recognition accuracy.
- Training, testing and evaluating models using relevant datasets.
- Applying your understanding of BSL to ensure accurate interpretation of the language, beyond individual gestures.
- Taking ownership of technical challenges, from research and experimentation through to deployment.
What They're Looking For
- Strong commercial experience in Computer Vision and Machine Learning.
- Excellent Python programming skills.
- Experience with PyTorch or TensorFlow.
- Knowledge of image processing, video analysis, pose estimation, hand tracking or gesture recognition.
- Experience developing, training and deploying Deep Learning models.
- Ability to independently solve technical challenges and take ownership of projects.
British Sign Language - Essential
- BSL as your first language is highly desirable.
- Alternatively, fluent or exceptionally high fluency with a deep understanding of BSL grammar, structure and linguistic nuances.
- Confident communicating in BSL and applying this knowledge to sign language recognition technology.
The Opportunity
An opportunity to work on meaningful AI technology, combining advanced Computer Vision with accessibility. You'll have the chance to influence technical development and help build solutions that make a genuine difference to the deaf community.
