The Configuration Architect serves as the strategic design authority and subject matter expert for assigned configuration domains within Medica's core systems ecosystem. This role is responsible for defining configuration architecture, establishing solution standards, evaluating business and system impacts, and guiding the design of complex configuration solutions that support organizational objectives.

The role translates business strategy and operational requirements into scalable, sustainable configuration designs while ensuring alignment across business processes, application capabilities, and enterprise goals. Acting as a trusted advisor to business stakeholders, technology partners, and Configuration Delivery teams, the Configuration Architect provides expertise throughout project intake, discovery, solution design, implementation planning, and production support activities.

The Configuration Architect operates with broad autonomy and significant influence, making decisions that affect configuration standards, implementation approaches, operational effectiveness, and long-term system sustainability. The role also provides consultation, mentoring, and technical leadership to configuration teams while driving innovation, governance, and continuous improvement across the configuration practice. Performs other duties as assigned.

Key Accountabilities

  • Configuration Architecture Leadership & Solution Design
    • Define architecture and configuration strategies for assigned business domains
    • Translate complex business objectives into scalable configuration solutions
    • Evaluate cross-functional impacts of design decisions across systems, processes, and operations
    • Establish solution patterns that promote consistency, maintainability, and operational efficiency
  • Domain Subject Matter Expert & Design Authority
    • Act as the primary decision-maker for complex configuration design and system capability questions
    • Provide guidance regarding platform functionality, business rule design, and configuration approaches
    • Evaluate risks, dependencies, and downstream impacts of proposed solutions
    • Ensure solutions align with enterprise standards and strategic objectives
  • Project Discovery, Scoping & Delivery Planning
    • Participate in initiative intake, discovery sessions, and solution assessment activities
    • Provide configuration estimates, impact assessments, and implementation recommendations
    • Identify architectural risks, constraints, and dependencies early in project lifecycles
    • Partner with business and technology stakeholders to define solution direction and delivery approaches
  • Technical Consultation & Delivery Team Support
    • Support Configuration Delivery teams with complex configuration analysis and issue resolution
    • Guide analysts through challenging business scenarios and design decisions
    • Review solution quality and ensure adherence to configuration standards
    • Serve as an escalation point for highly complex configuration issues
  • Innovation, Governance & Continuous Improvement
    • Evaluate emerging capabilities and opportunities to improve configuration effectiveness
    • Develop and maintain configuration standards, governance processes, and best practices
    • Promote automation, simplification, and operational efficiencies
    • Lead efforts to improve documentation, knowledge management, and architectural consistency across the organization

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree or equivalent experience in a related field
  • 7+ years of advanced configuration experience supporting complex business processes and enterprise systems
  • Experience leading solution design, architectural reviews, or strategic configuration initiatives

Preferred Certifications/Licensure

  • HealthRules Payor Certifications
  • CBAP
  • PMP
  • Lean Six Sigma Green Belt or Black Belt
  • TOGAF or related architecture certification

Preferred Qualifications

  • Deep expertise in healthcare payer operations and configuration principles
  • Advanced knowledge of HealthRules Payor and related ecosystem applications
  • Demonstrated ability to translate business requirements into scalable system solutions
  • Strong understanding of benefits, claims, provider, enrollment, billing, health services, and service operations concepts
  • Experience performing impact analysis, solution assessment, and implementation planning
  • Strong analytical, facilitation, communication, and stakeholder management skills
  • Proven ability to influence decisions across business and technical teams without direct authority
  • Experience developing standards, governance practices, and operational frameworks
  • Enterprise architecture, business architecture, or solution architecture experience
  • Experience supporting large-scale transformation, modernization, or migration initiatives
  • Agile delivery experience
  • Lean Six Sigma certification
  • Project Management Professional (PMP) certification
  • Certified Business Analysis Professional (CBAP)
  • HealthRules Payor certifications
  • Experience mentoring senior analysts and leading configuration communities of practice

This position is an Office role, which requires an employee to work onsite, on average, 3 days per week. We are open to candidates located near one of the following office locations: Minnetonka, MN, or Madison, WI.

The full salary grade for this position is $88,800 - $152,300. While the full salary grade is provided, the typical hiring salary range for this role is expected to be between $88,800 - $133,245. Annual salary range placement will depend on a variety of factors including, but not limited to, education, work experience, applicable certifications and/or licensure, the position's scope and responsibility, internal pay equity and external market salary data.  In addition to compensation, Medica offers a generous total rewards package that includes competitive medical, dental, vision, PTO, Holidays, paid volunteer time off, 401K contributions, caregiver services and many other benefits to support our employees.
