The Conflicts team plays a critical role in supporting the Firm’s client and matter intake process and upholding its professional responsibility obligations. The team is responsible for identifying, reviewing, and helping resolve potential conflicts of interest and related business-intake issues arising from new clients, new matters, lateral hires, and other firm initiatives. Working closely with attorneys and professional staff across the Firm’s global offices, the Conflicts function helps facilitate timely, accurate, and thoughtful conflict review in accordance with applicable rules of professional conduct and Firm policies. The Conflicts team also supports the maintenance of conflicts-related data and processes, contributes to the efficient opening of new matters, and helps protect the Firm and its clients by promoting sound risk management practices. This function requires strong analytical skills, careful attention to detail, sound judgment, discretion, and the ability to operate effectively in a collaborative, fast-paced environment. JOB SUMMARY: The Conflicts Analyst assists in managing procedures related to new business for the firm and working closely with Conflicts Attorneys and the members of the team on the facilitation of review, analysis, identification, and processing of requests. This role also applies business rules to search criteria necessary for the Firm to determine whether it may accept new clients and matters under prevailing ethical rules, applicable law and internal policies. JOB DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES: Work directly with Conflict Attorneys to analyze conflict check inquiries related to Firm-wide new business and conflicts of interest Prepare and obtain conflicts waivers; Monitor and review new intake forms, with an understanding of commercial and litigation matters to ensure submitted party information is correct and complete Gather information from internal and external databases, as well as from involved attorneys, to conduct factual research on prospective clients and other relevant parties, determine the status of relevant matters, assess whether a conflict of interest exists, and provide related risk assessment accordingly EDUCATION: Bachelor’s degree required Paralegal certificate preferred SKILLS & EXPERIENCE: 4+years’ experience in a conflicts analyst capacity at a law firm, corporation or financial institution Understanding of the type of work undertaken by a large global law firm, along with an appreciation of commercial and legal terms Strong organization skills, including robust issue tracking, follow up, and resolution capabilities Ability to work effectively with all levels of personnel in a global market with tact and diplomacy Ability to communicate professionally, clearly, concisely, and diplomatically, both verbally and in writing Proficiency with research applications such as Capital IQ and World-Check One Knowledge of InTapp a plus but not required Proven organizational skills, with the ability to provide a quality, accurate, and efficient written work product in a high-volume environment Ability to manage complex projects and assignments while meeting tight deadlines Advanced knowledge of conflicts and experience with conflicts resolution with overall understanding of a corporate law practice; previous experience in law firm conflicts and intake POSTING DISCLOSURE: Simpson Thacher will not sponsor applicants for work visas for this position. Salary Information NY Only: The estimated base salary range for this position is $150,000 to $170,000 at the time of posting. The actual salary offered will depend on a variety of factors, including without limitation, the qualifications of the individual applicant for the position, years of relevant experience, level of education attained, certifications or other professional licenses held, and if applicable, the location in which the applicant lives and/or from which they will be performing the job.
