Job Description

JOB TITLE: Money Follows People Project coordinator

TYPE OF CONTRACT: International Consultant

UNIT/DIVISION: Delivery Assurance Services, Supply Chain

DUTY STATION (City, Country): Cairo, RBC (Remote)

DURATION: 2 months

BACKGROUND AND PURPOSE OF THE ASSIGNMENT:

The United Nations World Food Programme (WFP) is the world’s largest humanitarian organization, saving lives in emergencies and using food assistance to build pathways to peace, stability and prosperity. Money Follows People (MFP) is a WFP initiative that aims to develop a practical model for continuity of assistance when vulnerable people move across borders and transition between WFP operations. The model brings together interdependent pillars: identity and information continuity; payment continuity; and programme and financial orchestration.

Job Purpose:

The Project Coordinator will provide day-to-day coordination of the Money Follows People project across all pillars. Over the two-month assignment, the Project coordinator will plan and facilitate the cross-functional workshop, maintain engagement with all participating Country Offices and technical functions, ensure that discussions and decisions are systematically documented, and consolidate the outputs into a clear, realistic and operationally testable MFP model. The project coordinator will also track actions and progress across pillars, support procurement and partner-engagement processes, monitor budget utilization before the applicable TDD deadline, and provide timely project reporting and escalation of risks and decisions.

ACCOUNTABILITIES/RESPONSIBILITIES:

You will be responsible for the following key duties and others as required:

  • Coordinate preparatory work for the MFP workshop, including participant engagement, agendas, pre-reads, facilitation materials, inputs from Country Offices and technical functions, and logistical follow-up.
  • Coordinate the workshop and ensure that discussions, assumptions, decisions, unresolved issues, risks, roles, responsibilities and agreed next steps are accurately recorded.
  • Lead structured post-workshop follow-up with all participants, validate captured outputs, close information gaps and monitor completion of agreed actions.
  • Consolidate cross-pillar inputs into a coherent and realistic MFP operating model, clearly setting out the proposed end-to-end process, minimum requirements, Country Office decision points, governance arrangements, dependencies, safeguards and areas requiring further validation.
  • Coordinate work across the identity and information continuity, payment continuity, and programme and financial orchestration pillars, ensuring alignment between technical, operational, financial, data-protection, legal and Country Office perspectives.
  • Coordinate with Supply Chain, Procurement, Finance and relevant technical teams on the procurement pathway for any required services or solutions, including preparation and follow-up of documentation, timelines, approvals and vendor engagement.
  • Monitor project budget utilization and commitments, maintain visibility on planned versus actual expenditure, and coordinate timely actions required to utilize available funds before the applicable TDD deadline, in line with WFP rules and approvals.
  • Prepare concise progress updates, meeting records, decision logs and a final assignment report, ensuring that project documentation is complete, accessible and suitable for management review and subsequent project phases.

DELIVERABLES AT THE END OF THE CONTRACT:

    • A successfully coordinated MFP workshop, supported by a complete facilitation package and consolidated participant inputs.
    • A structured MFP outcome paper that translates workshop results into a clear and realistic operating model, including the end-to-end process, pillar interfaces, roles and responsibilities, minimum operational and technical requirements, governance and safeguards, implementation considerations and recommended next steps.
    • A final assignment report summarizing achievements, expenditure status, constraints, management decisions required and priorities for the next phase.

QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:

    • Education:Advanced university degree in project management, business administration, economics, international development, supply chain, finance, social sciences or another relevant field, or a first university degree with additional relevant years of professional experience.
    • Experience:At least five years of progressively responsible professional experience in project coordination or programme management, preferably in humanitarian operations. Demonstrated experience coordinating cross-functional teams, workshops and complex deliverables; consolidating technical and operational inputs into clear models or reports; and supporting procurement, budget monitoring and management reporting.
    • Knowledge & Skills:Strong planning, facilitation, stakeholder coordination, follow-up and analytical writing skills. Ability to structure ambiguous cross-functional inputs, maintain action and risk trackers, manage competing deadlines, and communicate clearly with Country Offices, technical functions and management. Knowledge of WFP operations, cash-based transfers, identity management, payment systems, data responsibility, programme design, finance or supply chain is an asset.
    • Languages:Fluency (level C) in English.
