The Content and Editorial Manager develops informative, engaging and strategy-based content that advances the College of Nursing’s marketing, communications and enrollment goals. This role combines strategic thinking, creative ideation, audience insight and strong writing and editing skills to develop content that connects with prospective students, current students, faculty, staff, alumni and external audiences across channels and platforms.


The Content and Editorial Manager serves as a subject-matter resource for content and editorial strategy, independently leading complex projects and collaborating with marketing colleagues and college stakeholders to identify opportunities, develop effective content and ensure alignment with Ohio State’s brand and organizational objectives.


Key responsibilities

  • Develop and execute content and editorial strategies aligned with College of Nursing and Ohio State marketing and communications priorities.
  • Identify and pursue content opportunities that engage priority audiences and support enrollment, reputation, research visibility and other organizational goals.
  • Develop compelling stories and content featuring students, faculty, research, academic programs, clinical experiences, alumni and the impact of the college.
  • Write, edit and refine content for websites, news stories, email, social media, marketing campaigns, newsletters and other communications.
  • Apply audience-centric thinking to determine appropriate content, messaging, format and channel for specific audiences and objectives.
  • Develop content that communicates the value and distinctiveness of the college and its academic programs to prospective students and other priority audiences.
  • Lead editorial planning and contribute to content calendars and integrated marketing campaigns.
  • Apply SEO principles, search intent and content optimization techniques to improve the visibility and effectiveness of priority web content.
  • Translate complex academic, research and healthcare topics into clear, accessible and engaging content for a variety of audiences.
  • Contribute creative concepts, messaging and content ideas for integrated marketing and communications initiatives.
  • Collaborate with designers, multimedia producers, marketing and communications colleagues and other partners to develop cohesive, audience-focused campaigns and content.
  • Research audiences, markets, industries and content best practices to inform recommendations and develop results-focused content.
  • Use available audience insights, analytics and content metrics to evaluate performance and identify opportunities for optimization.
  • Establish and promote editorial standards and best practices to support consistency, quality and alignment with Ohio State’s brand.
  • Provide editorial guidance and subject-matter expertise to colleagues and college stakeholders.
  • Build consensus among stakeholders and manage complex content projects from concept through completion.

Serve as an informal resource and mentor to colleagues on content development, writing, editing, storytelling and editorial strategy.

Additional Information:

Minimum required qualifications:

Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience. Advanced degree in relevant field may be desirable. 4 years of relevant experience required. 4-8 years of relevant experience preferred.

  • Bachelor’s degree in communications, journalism, marketing, English or a related field, or equivalent experience.

  • Demonstrated experience developing strategic, audience-focused content for multiple channels.
  • Excellent writing, editing and storytelling skills.
  • Experience translating complex information into clear, engaging content for diverse audiences.
  • Strong understanding of content strategy, editorial planning and digital communications.
  • Ability to independently manage complex projects and priorities.
  • Strong collaboration, consultation and relationship-building skills.
  • Experience in higher education, healthcare or another complex institutional environment.
  • Experience supporting enrollment marketing or student recruitment communications.
  • Experience with SEO, web content optimization and content performance measurement.
  • Experience developing content strategies informed by audience research, analytics and industry best practices.
  • Familiarity with Drupal or other content management systems and Salesforce Marketing Cloud.
