The Vacancy

Long-term programmes. Real project ownership. Career growth you can see.

WGM Engineering, part of RSK Group, is looking for a Contracts Manager to join our Projects team on a permanent, full-time basis, working 37.5 hours per week. Based in Glasgow with hybrid working, you’ll travel to project sites as required. Our office will be relocating to Stepps by March 2027.

Reporting directly to the Projects Director, you’ll lead the safe, efficient and commercially successful delivery of a portfolio of mechanical, electrical, instrumentation, control and automation (MEICA) projects across water and industrial infrastructure.

You’ll take ownership of portfolio performance, lead and develop Project Managers and Engineers, and build trusted relationships with clients. Your involvement will span the full project lifecycle, from enquiry and estimating through design, installation, commissioning and handover.

This opportunity would suit an experienced Contracts Manager or Delivery Manager, or a Senior Project Manager ready to take responsibility for multiple projects and develop other project leaders.

WGM Engineering is experiencing significant growth across the UK, with secured long-term frameworks extending beyond 2035. This provides a strong foundation for sustained delivery, investment in our people and long-term career development. As part of RSK Group, we combine the scale and support of a wider group with the practical, hands-on approach of a specialist engineering delivery business.

Why join WGM?

You’ll have the opportunity to influence how projects are planned, resourced and delivered, working directly with the Projects Director to address challenges and improve performance.

With in-house capabilities spanning Technical & Design, off-site engineering and project delivery, you’ll work alongside specialists who can help turn ideas into practical solutions. You’ll also help shape how we use modular construction, digital tools and off-site approaches to improve delivery.

As our Projects business grows, you’ll contribute to delivery standards, strengthen team capability and build your leadership experience across a varied portfolio of essential infrastructure projects.

What You’ll Do:

  • Lead portfolio delivery: Take accountability for multiple MEICA contracts, ensuring projects meet agreed safety, programme, cost, quality and client requirements.
  • Champion safety and wellbeing: Provide visible leadership on health, safety, wellbeing and environmental performance, ensuring effective controls and sharing learning across project teams.
  • Develop your team: Lead, coach and support Project Managers and Engineers, setting clear expectations, reviewing performance and building capability.
  • Drive commercial performance: Oversee budgets, forecasts and agreed margins, challenging variances and implementing recovery plans where needed. Work with commercial colleagues to manage contractual obligations, changes and timely notices.
  • Coordinate people and resources: Review programmes, capacity and dependencies across the portfolio, bringing design, procurement, commercial, site and commissioning teams together to meet delivery commitments.
  • Build client confidence: Maintain strong client and supply chain relationships, lead delivery discussions and resolve escalated issues.
  • Maintain effective governance: Ensure robust risk management, change control and accurate reporting, giving the Projects Director clear visibility of performance and decisions required.
  • Shape future delivery: Contribute to enquiries, estimates and tender reviews, and promote off-site engineering, Design for Manufacture and Assembly (DfMA), modular construction and continuous improvement.

What You’ll Bring:

  • Demonstrable experience managing multiple engineering or construction projects, with responsibility for delivery and commercial performance.
  • A mechanical, electrical or civil engineering background, with a strong understanding of multidisciplinary delivery and MEICA interfaces.
  • Experience leading and developing Project Managers, Engineers or multidisciplinary project teams.
  • Strong commercial and financial understanding, including budgeting, forecasting, margin management and cost control.
  • A practical understanding of construction contracts and change control, including timely notices and accurate records.
  • Strong programme and resource management skills, with the ability to identify risks, challenge assumptions and recover performance.
  • A visible commitment to health, safety, wellbeing and quality.
  • Strong communication and stakeholder management skills, with the confidence to lead client discussions and resolve complex delivery issues.
  • A valid UK driving licence.

Experience delivering water or wastewater projects, working knowledge of NEC contracts, and exposure to off-site engineering, DfMA or modular construction would be advantageous.
