Her Campus Media is seeking a creative, organized, strategic, growth-minded Contributing Audience Editor to help build highly engaged audiences around some of our most exciting editorial initiatives. The primary focus of this part-time role will be owning and executing the social and newsletter strategy for @sorority, our social-first brand dedicated to all things Greek life, establishing the property as a must-follow destination for Gen Z women interested in various college sorority experiences. This person will think holistically about how we reach, engage, and retain that audience, from developing and executing social programming and newsletter strategy to identifying new formats, franchises, and opportunities for growth.
Beyond @sorority, the Contributing Audience Editor will support special projects and emerging audience opportunities across Her Campus Media, helping develop and execute strategies around new launches, editorial initiatives, and platforms as they arise. The ideal candidate can move nimbly between social strategy and execution; has a deep understanding of Gen Z, Greek life, and college culture; and strong editorial instincts to spot early trends based on audience data.
This is a remote, part-time (28 hours/week) role that reports to the Director of Social and will work closely with the VP of Content Strategy, Social Producer, content creators, freelancers, and cross-functional teams across HCM.
Key Responsibilities
- Own and execute the social and newsletter strategy for @sorority across channels, with a focus on audience growth and engagement
- Own the launch and continued editorial direction of the @sorority newsletter, writing guaranteed monthly sends and additional sends as needed
- Manage the @sorority editorial calendar, including but not limited to working with in-house content creators to create, write, edit, package, and publish social and newsletter content and develop a consistent pipeline of timely, relevant content across social channels
- Develop content pillars, recurring social franchises and formats, and newsletter programming that establish a distinct voice and identity for @sorority
- Project manage the launch of larger social initiatives for @sorority and other social-first moments as needed, like scripted and unscripted video series, editorial tentpoles, etc.
- Stay deeply plugged into Greek life-related trends, memes, news, and conversations relevant to our audience, reacting quickly and thoughtfully when content opportunities arise
- Monitor social and newsletter performance, analyze audience behavior, and turn insights into actionable recommendations for content and growth
- Support audience strategy and project management for additional HCM special projects, launches, and emerging initiatives as opportunities arise
- Collaborate cross-functionally with editorial, community, branded content, and other HCM teams
- Prioritize diversity, equity, and inclusion throughout @sorority coverage to reflect the breadth of the Greek life experience
Skills, Knowledge and Expertise
We believe the following will set you up for success in this role. If you don't meet all of these qualifications, please still apply and tell us what makes you a great candidate. We value unique perspectives, approaches, and backgrounds.
- 3+ years of experience in social media, audience development, editorial, video, newsletters, or a related field, ideally working with Gen Z, college, lifestyle, or women-focused audiences
- Strong understanding of Greek life, sorority culture, and the college experience; personal experience with or professional coverage of Greek life is a major plus
- Highly adept across Instagram, TikTok, and YouTube, with a finger on the pulse of new social tools and platforms, and a strong understanding of how audiences discover, consume, share, and engage with content
- Experience in newsletter strategy and the factors that drive opens, clicks, subscriber growth, and retention, as well as using those analytics to inform decisions and strategy
- Strong editorial instincts and an understanding of audience growth, engagement, community building, and content optimization
- Excellent writing, editing, and copyediting skills, with the ability to write in a voice that feels smart, funny, current, and native to Gen Z
- Comfortable creating and packaging lightweight social content using tools such as Canva, CapCut, or similar platforms
- Excellent organizational and project management skills, with the ability to manage multiple projects, stakeholders, and deadlines at once
- Ability to work autonomously, proactively identify opportunities, shift priorities, and jump into new projects as HCM’s needs evolve
