Retro Guides is a European based company specializing in the digitalization of historical tourism in an effort to make the industry more reliable.

All content is researched or curated by local historians and subject-matter experts to ensure accuracy and depth and now organized into our NFP archival system that is academically inclined. Our product emphasizes accessibility and transparency, turning every walk into an educational and exciting journey through time.

Team members contribute to a platform that makes historical knowledge more engaging and widely available.

Role Description

• Contributing Historians support Retro Guides by contributing at least one piece of research to the archival system as well as the possibility to contribute to our growing publication “The Retro Chronicles.”

• Historians must remain historically accurate, meticulously researched and write a professional manner that is appropriate for academic endeavours with capability to write in the prose necessary to fulfill this duty.
• The position is currently without pay, although accreditation for the work you do for us is appropriated accordingly.

• Your hours are flexible and work around your schedule, we work on final deadlines and how you conduct yourself within that timeframe defines how your work comes out

• You will work remotely with the ability to have meetings on site in Amsterdam upon request.

• Finally, the position may be able to carry into a paid position at a later stage, although the ability to provide that assurance is currently not possible.

Qualifications

• Ability to conduct thorough Historical Research and Archival Research using diverse primary and secondary sources

• Experience working with Archives and archival materials, including organizing and interpreting historical records

• Strong writing skills, with the ability to present complex historical topics in clear, engaging language and in an academic writing prose

• Attention to detail, commitment to accuracy, and respect for ethical standards in public history and representation

• Comfort working independently in a remote environment and collaborating with an international, multicultural team when required

• Relevant academic training or equivalent experience in History, Public History, Museum Studies, Anthropology, or related fields is beneficial

Ideal skills to have:

• Strong command of English language skills; Including grammar and understanding of multiple writing prose that pertain to archival research
• Interest in pursuing a career in an academic setting within a private company setting
• Experience in working with municipalities and in subsidized settings a major plus
