About the Company
We are a fast-growing wellness and consumer products company selling across direct-to-consumer (DTC), Amazon, TikTok Shop, and major national retail channels. As the business continues to scale, we are looking for a hands-on Controller to oversee accounting operations, cash management, financial controls, and audit readiness.
This is a highly involved role requiring ownership from individual transactions through audited financial statements. You will work closely with executive leadership, providing accurate financial reporting, strengthening internal controls, and helping prepare the business for its next stage of growth.
Key Responsibilities
1. Cash Flow Forecasting & Cash Management
Build and maintain a rolling 13-week cash flow forecast, updated weekly and reconciled against actuals.
Forecast cash inflows across DTC, subscriptions, Amazon, TikTok Shop, and retail receivables, alongside outflows such as inventory purchases, manufacturing deposits, marketing, payroll, and debt service.
Identify potential cash constraints early and recommend actions related to payment timing, vendor terms, inventory purchases, and credit facilities.
Manage banking, corporate card, and payment processor relationships, and oversee daily cash reconciliations.
Monitor working capital, including retail accounts receivable, supplier payment terms, deductions, and chargebacks.
2. Financial Audit Leadership
Lead the annual financial statement audit from planning through completion, including schedules, auditor requests, and proposed adjustments.
Deliver accurate, reconciled audit support and keep the process on schedule.
Resolve audit findings and management letter recommendations with sustainable corrective actions.
Maintain audit readiness throughout the year, not just at year-end.
3. Internal Controls & Process Improvement
Design and implement an internal control framework appropriate for a rapidly growing business, including segregation of duties, approval matrices, and documented reviews.
Establish and enforce policies covering expenses, corporate cards, purchasing, vendor onboarding, and revenue recognition.
Embed controls into finance systems, ERP workflows, and payment approval processes.
Prepare clear financial documentation to support leadership and board-level approvals.
4. Expense Management & Financial Analysis
Review monthly expenses in detail, including corporate card transactions, reimbursements, vendor invoices, and marketing spend.
Ensure all expenses are properly documented, coded, and supported by a clear business purpose.
Partner with the Director of Finance on budget-versus-actual analysis, investigating variances and explaining key drivers.
5. Accounts Receivable/Payable & Outsourced Partner Oversight
Manage the outsourced AR/AP provider, establish service-level agreements (SLAs), review deliverables, and maintain accountability for results.
Approve payment runs and verify vendor invoices against purchase orders and receipts.
Track retail receivables, deductions, and chargebacks through resolution or recovery.
Evaluate opportunities to bring accounting activities in-house and support future hiring as needed.
6. Month-End Close & Financial Reporting
Own a timely and accurate month-end close, targeting business day 10 or earlier, in accordance with US GAAP.
Oversee balance sheet reconciliations, accruals, inventory and cost of goods sold (COGS) accounting, and revenue recognition across sales channels.
Prepare monthly financial reporting packages for executive leadership and the board.
Support tax filings and compliance in coordination with external advisors, including multi-entity and sales tax requirements.
