Show job description

As a member of the Content & Production team at PlayOn Sports, the Coordinating Producer, Ohio will oversee and grow NFHS Network live event production operations across Ohio. This role will be responsible for coordinating and expanding manual broadcast coverage across the Ohio High School Athletic Association's (OHSAA) full postseason tournament structure statewide — from sectional and district rounds through regional and state championship rounds — across football, boys and girls basketball, boys and girls volleyball, boys and girls soccer, baseball, softball, boys and girls lacrosse, and other OHSAA-sponsored sports.

A key focus of this role will be growing the overall number of live events produced throughout the state in alignment with PlayOn's growth initiatives. This position will identify opportunities for additional coverage, build the production capacity necessary to support that growth, and execute an increasing volume of high-quality live broadcasts across Ohio.

This role works closely with regional production leadership, OHSAA, schools, venues, affiliates, contractors, and internal Network teams to develop coverage plans and execute live productions. The State Coordinator will manage event scheduling, crew development and coordination, production logistics, equipment deployment, venue readiness, budgeting, and live event support. Overnight travel and non-traditional work hours, including nights and weekends, will be required.

Outcomes you'll deliver

  • Grow the Ohio production footprint by increasing the number of manual broadcasts across sectional/district, regional, and state championship events — including currently underserved rounds such as basketball sectionals/districts, volleyball early rounds, and baseball, softball, soccer, and lacrosse regional games — in alignment with PlayOn's growth objectives.
  • Build the production capacity necessary to support increased event volume by expanding and developing a reliable network of production contractors, talent, affiliates, and other Ohio-based resources.
  • Successfully execute an increasing volume of high-quality live productions by ensuring events are properly staffed, equipped, scheduled, and supported while managing production costs within established budgets.

In this role, you can expect to

  • Coordinate and grow NFHS Network production operations across OHSAA's postseason tournament structure statewide.
  • Proactively identify opportunities to increase manual broadcast event count throughout Ohio.
  • Work with regional production leadership and OHSAA to develop coverage schedules and production plans that support both existing commitments and continued growth.
  • Develop the operational capacity required to support increased coverage, including identifying geographic or resource gaps and building production resources in areas where additional coverage opportunities exist.
  • Recruit, onboard, train, schedule, and support freelance producers, camera operators, broadcasters, and other production personnel throughout Ohio.
  • Maintain a strong understanding of available regional production resources and strategically deploy crews and equipment based on event needs and geography.
  • Manage production logistics from initial planning through successful event completion.
  • Coordinate directly with schools, venues, athletic administrators, IT personnel, and other event contacts to confirm production access, setup locations, power, internet connectivity, and other technical requirements.
  • Create and communicate crew assignments, call times, production formats, technical requirements, sponsor obligations, and event-specific instructions.
  • Coordinate production equipment deployment and movement throughout the state, including planning around overlapping events and championship schedules.
  • Manage production expenses and assist with forecasting and budget tracking for assigned events and the Ohio territory.
  • Work with affiliates and other production partners to expand Network coverage and coordinate content delivery.
  • Support crews during live events and troubleshoot streaming, connectivity, equipment, and production issues when necessary.
  • Lead live event productions from the field when needed and maintain a working knowledge of each production position.
  • Monitor production quality and provide feedback, training, and support to improve crew performance and consistency as the production footprint grows.
  • Collaborate with internal Content & Production, Operations, Support, and other cross-functional teams to ensure successful delivery and continued growth of live event coverage.
  • Travel throughout Ohio as required for meetings, site visits, major events, and championship productions.

To thrive in this role, you have

  • Strong knowledge of live sports production, streaming workflows, and event operations.
  • Experience coordinating multiple live productions, crews, or events simultaneously.
  • A growth mindset with the ability to identify opportunities, build operational capacity, and turn coverage opportunities into successfully executed live productions.
  • Strong leadership and relationship-building skills with the ability to work effectively with contractors, schools, venues, athletic associations, affiliates, and internal teams.
  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail, with the ability to manage a high volume of events and changing priorities.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Technical proficiency and strong analytical and problem-solving skills, particularly in live production environments.
  • The ability to remain composed and make effective decisions when troubleshooting time-sensitive production issues.
  • Experience recruiting, scheduling, managing, or developing freelance production personnel.
  • Experience managing production budgets, expenses, or other operational resources.
  • The ability to work independently while collaborating closely with a distributed regional team.
  • The flexibility to work nights, weekends, and other non-traditional hours based on the sports calendar.
  • The ability and willingness to travel throughout Ohio, including overnight travel when required.
  • Proficiency with general computing and productivity tools, including Microsoft Office and Google Workspace.
  • A bachelor's degree in Journalism, Mass Communication, Sports Management, Production, or a related field, or equivalent professional experience.
  • 5+ years of relevant experience in live production, sports operations, event operations, or a related field preferred.

HOW YOU PLAY

  • Ownership over Participation – You take responsibility for achieving holistic outcomes, prioritize key objectives, and adapt quickly when situations require a different approach. You follow through even against the toughest challenges.
  • Team over Stars – You are a bridge builder, establishing processes and relationships with teams outside your own. You work to rally around common goals, find win-win solutions, compromise when necessary, and help others succeed.
  • Growth over Comfort – You are driven by a desire to grow and actively seek opportunities to expand your comfort zone, skills, and confidence. You embrace new challenges with curiosity, accepting discomfort and failure as opportunities to learn.
  • Fairness over Popularity – You approach decisions with a scientist’s mindset, challenging your assumptions and remaining objective. You consider long-term impact rather than relying on short-term gains, proactively seek others’ perspectives, and manage emotions in decision-making.
